He didn't say it wasn't going to happen.
Hakeem Jeffries only needs 4 Republicans to make a 218 majority. He could easily get those four, and more, if he was willing to come off his stated position of insisting on a 3 year extension.

One day, at work, I had to suppress laffter. A coworker was ranting and raving about how all sorts of terrible things were Nancy Pelosi's fault. At that time, Pelosi was "minority leader". You can't so squat in the House, if you are in the minority. Committee chairmanships are all controlled by the majority. The speaker is a member of the majority. I somehow doubt that a "discharge petition" can be used to force legislation to be written from scratch, so Johnson's control of the House means nothing happens unless his nibs wants it to happen. So, we consider if his nibs really wants something done, or was he simply posturing for public consumption?
