Yep. But Europe had to deal with waves of immigrants marching across Europe, huge encampments, on the shores of the Mediterranean, boats crossing and sinking, kids drowning, migrants jumping trains to get to England, Orban blocking off Hungary, etc. You could watch it develop. Same thing here, only it started with the GFC, overnight it seemed that illegal immigrants were responsible for all our social ills. And it ahs continued. Tremendous staying power and very useful to the far right.

Now we have cartel gangs branching into moving people to our border as a lucrative sideline. Start in Ecuador and bring them up. People from Turkey are flying into Nicaragua and paying for a 96 hour Visa, and high airport fees till they can get out. And it benefits Republicans not to deal with it, just use it as a platform and a cudgel. How did we get here?
