A new Louisiana requirement that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public classroom by Jan. 1 was temporarily blocked Tuesday by a federal judge who said the law is "unconstitutional on its face."

Certainly MAGAGOV can overcome this insult to MAGAMERICA.

U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles in Baton Rouge said the law had an "overtly religious" purpose, and rejected state officials' claims that the government can mandate the posting of the Ten Commandments because they hold historical significance to the foundation of U.S. law. His opinion noted that no other foundational documents — including the Constitution or the Bill of Rights — must be posted.

In granting a preliminary injunction, DeGravelles said opponents of the law are likely to win their ongoing lawsuit against the law. The lawsuit argues that the law violates the First Amendment's provisions forbidding the government from establishing a religion or blocking the free exercise of religion. They had argued that the poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments would isolate students, especially those who are not Christian.

This is a job for SUPERSCOTUS!

I think this judge has the right take on this. Republicans should realize that quietly slipping divisive religious content into the schools aggravates the liberals in somewhat the same way all the trans crap in schools and sports aggravates conservatives.

But doesn't aggravate "conservatives" as long as it isn't the religion of a shithole country?

Once a year we have talk like a pirate day.. argh

The next 4 years are hereby declared 'talk like a MAGA, bitch'

"Your body, my choice, bitch!"

Looking forward to pop-up vendors outside the Costco and malls selling FUCK TRUMP flags like the FUCK BIDEN flags we enjoyed seeing on corner popups the last 4 years. .

MAGAMERICA!

It's not a question of "aggravation". It's a question of law and our founding principles. And also a bit of history, since the Founders did not use or consult the 10 Commandments for the foundation of the USA. Quite the opposite. They deliberately said (in 1A) that the government shall not support or establish any religion. That was radical at that time. Most (if not all) governments at that time sponsored one religion. In England, for example, it was the Anglican (and still is to this day). British taxpayers support the Anglican church whether they like it or not. Individual state constitutions sometimes still have references to that, though they were superseded later by the US Constitution.

It does not matter if something aggravates me, or you, or albaby, or dope. It matters whether it is legal or illegal. The 10C is illegal in schools funded with public funds. Trans kids have the same rights as any other kids. The fair competition in sports is a stickier question, but I don't think it breaks the top 10 list of concerns of most of the citizenry. Not that it should be ignored, but I don't think it requires federal law to handle.

I think Dems are not as reactionary as MAGA-heads are. Compare and contrast to four years ago...today there are no riots. The losing candidate conceded. The White House is inviting the winner to facilitate a smooth transition. Dems are more calm and rational (overall...I'm sure you can find exceptions), and realize this is the process. MAGA doesn't, which generated all the hate-mongering.

I will think "Fuck Trump" for the next four years (unless he dies before then, in which case I'll probably dance a brief jig), but I'm not going to litter my yard, or deface my car with such slogans. Of course, I wouldn't think to attach testicles to a trailer hitch, either.

The founders were very familiar with the persecution of the Huguenots in France by Louis the XIV. The age of reason had come and the age of enlightenment was upon them. But, if you post the Commandments in every schoolroom you affect all school kids. If you allow a trans person on a team it affects a few people in a few schools across the USA. In some cases the kids like the trans athlete so it's just interference. However, we do all FEEL that allowing a supposed "man" to compete against women is inherently unfair, including me. There is no good solution to what we FEEL. But it's only happening in a few cases and not posted to the wall in *every* classroom.

Of course they are. Dems better realize this WAS the process.

We're fortunate we're white, male, and -hopefully- have the wherewithal to not be devastated by the coming shitstorm.
