I’m recovering from a recent surgery and unable to do my normal distracting hobbies, so I’m sitting here freaking out everyday watching what appears to be the US slowly collapsing into authoritarianism.

Instead of arguing whether or not that’s the case, I’d rather be proactive and try to figure out the best country to invest in to try to get residency. I’ve read about Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain a bit, and it appears I can either buy real estate (Greece) or invest in the country’s government bonds to gain residency, but my main question for non-US folks here is how hard would it be for an English speaking person to set up a banking relationship in a foreign country? I’m pretty worried about future US capital flight restrictions.

I was looking mostly at the EU, but maybe I should lean towards Canada? I didn’t want to live in Canada because of the cold, but if I gained residency there through investment (not sure that’s even an option) could I then travel and live in the warmer EU countries?

Sorry this is very OT, but I wanted to get the attention of the many non-us folks on this board for advice.
