Bill Clinton was the last sane democrat. They've all gone downhill after him.
The GOP really screwed up when they tried to impeach him. We could have had bipartisan Social Security reform that would have worked but they really wanted a scalp to get even for Nixon. And then that sent the democrats over the moon with rage that they would focus on Bush43.

"Clinton derangement syndrome". A reasonably balanced budget. Low unemployment. Low inflation. Strong dollar. Made the GOP's posturing about those metrics, while running record peacetime deficits, look like idiocy in charge. Of course they had to try to destroy him. Remember the Ken Starr fishing expedition? Looked at Whitewater. Nothing there. Looked at the WH travel office. Nothing there. Looked at Vince Foster's suicide. Nothing there. I remember Bill speaking at a convention, some years ago, words to the effect "Republicans have only two goals: give tax cuts to their friends, and investigate Democrats." Does seem to work that way, doesn't it?

Agree 100% - the impeachment stuff costed the country SS reform, Medicare Reform .....and, bumped both The President and First Lady's approval numbers while Newt had to resign.
It's amazing to me --- Club 401K refuses to see how Clinton eded a few issues. Then he won twice. And they got RBG verses the SCOTUS they have now.
If they ever reversed on illegal immigration ---and the pronoun stuff, Republicans woulse lose their asses in 2028.

At the beginning of the 90s, Clinton could have been a moderate Repub. He did plenty for the "JCs", including banking deregulation and helping China join the WTO. But he didn't wade hip deep into racism, and religious extremism. And the Proles got a piece of the action.
Now the program is turning racism and Christian fanaticism up to eleven, while robbing the Proles to enrich the "JCs". Clinton would have been the sort of Repub that has been purged from the GOP over the last 20 years. I remember former Florida GOP Gov Charlie Crist speaking at the Dem convention, some years ago, about how the party had left him, by tipping so far into extremism.

One of our own board members, apparently a veteran of the 75th Infantry Division (Rangers), hence his screen name "suaspontemark" ["sua sponte" being the motto of that division] has overtly stated that only a white male, Gavin Newsome, has the ability to win the 2028 presidential nomination as the Democrat nominee.
