President-elect Donald J. Trump is almost certain to choose a gun-rights advocate as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or to simply leave the job vacant.
The A.T.F., under its Biden-appointed director, Steven M. Dettelbach, has been more proactive on gun control than at any time in its recent history. It has pushed through rules to curb the proliferation of the untraceable homemade firearms known as ghost guns, clamped down on devices that make firearms deadlier and regulated unlicensed firearms sellers who operate at gun shows or online.
That earned praise from gun control groups and drew the enmity of Republicans, including President-elect Donald J. Trump.
Anyone who has paid attention to Trump through the years can see that he not only has no moral compass, no integrity, but that his blatant pursuit of his self interest has taken him to where he his now. If he has any special talent it is seeing clearly who he can most easily manipulate. And in the erstwhile Republican Party he found the perfect group to serve his corrupt ambitions.

So far the response from most other world leaders had been craven and shameful on the one hand, or jubilant on the other (Putin and other authoritarians love him and he loves them).

actually, i see a lot of notables that never supported trump before, now 'supporting' trump via niceties and relatively small donation amounts.
its less that their stance has changed rather than what putin has long realized...its never been cheaper to buy an american president even just so he will look elsewhere for enemies. and enemies he MUST have to justify his existence for himself and MAGA.
at least as POTUS influence goes, inflation has been eradicated.

I can guarantee you that we will... Our society is a complex mixture of many beliefs and many cultures.
In the long run interdependence wins out over dependence.

He doesn't have to worry about reelection, and therefore about popularity or corruption. He can do whatever benefits him the most, and damn the consequences (because there probably won't be any with the trifecta control of government starting next year).
Unless he has a need for popularity that exceeds his greed, he can screw anyone he likes, including his maga people, and not care
