Barbara "Barby" Balmaseda, who interned for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio between 2018 and 2019, and worked as an organizer on Gov. Ron DeSantis' 2018 campaign was arrested on December 14 in Miami Lakes, Florida and charged with obstructing an official proceeding, knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted building, and engaging in disorderly conduct in a Capitol building with the intent to impede a session of Congress on January 6, 2021.
In the months following the insurrection, online sleuths, including the group Sedition Hunters, zeroed in on Balmaseda –– whom they dubbed "#PinkGaiterPBG." She appeared to have been photographed inside the Capitol sporting a baseball cap with an American flag and a black-and-pink gaiter, and later alongside Proud Boys members Gabriel Garcia and Ethan Nordean, both of whom have been convicted of felonies in connection with the insurrection.
A former Vice City Proud Boy, who was at the Capitol on January 6 and spoke on condition that he not be named for fear of retaliation, previously told New Times that Balmaseda was there with Garcia. "Barby was there," he said.Another interestingly nicknamed seditionist, #GogglesMan, a 34-year-old Tampa-area Proud Boy, was sentenced to more than three years in prison and another three years of supervised release earlier this month for his role in the insurrection. In August, Johnson pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers after prosecutors claimed that he helped coordinate pushes against police and passed a sledgehammer and pepper spray to other rioters while working with fellow Proud Boys.
The law and order party will applaud, no doubt, that criminals continue to be taken into custody and continue to plead guilty for assaulting police and passing around a sledgehammer and pepper spray during the January 6 attack.
