Reported earlier that Canada was willing to join, but not pay the $1B fee demanded for the bribe laundering scheme.
Now, Canada will suffer the consequences.
Trump withdraws ‘Board of Peace’ invitation to Carney in widening rift with Canada
U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the invitation to Canada to join his “Board of Peace,” days after Prime Minister Mark Carney’s address in Davos warning against economic coersion by the world’s superpowers.
“Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Thursday night stateside.
While Carney did not name any country (in his speech in Davos), Trump responded later, saying on the sidelines of the forum that “Canada lives because of the United States. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/23/trump-withdraws-bo...Even if Venezuelan oil production is years away from equaling what the US imports from Canada, don't be 100% surprised if Trump the Magnificent and Perfect cuts off Canadian imports anyway. He cares not one whit for the welfare of USians. He is butt-hurt by Carney's refusal to pay him a bribe, on top of being skunked on Greenland.

Why are they so isolationist?

Why are they so isolationist?
Who "they"? Which "they"?
God's Gift to Earth Trump thinks he is vastly superior to everyone else.
Canada? Not isolationist. Canada was going to be a signatory to the "Trans Pacific Partnership" trade treaty. Trump the Magnificent and Perfect withdrew the treaty from consideration before it was ratified by the US. Without the US, the treaty was reworked a bit and became the "Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership", of which Canada is a signatory. Carney was recently in trade negotiations with China. Maybe they just don't like being bullied by two bit dictators?

Canada is being rude, bully, arrogant and not joining the peace group.
What's next? They want people to learn French who come to live in their country and they'll use public schools to shove that racism and xenophobic garbage down people's throats?
Get the ACLU over there pronto Amigo.

I thought the $1 billion was only to be become a "permanent" member of the board of peace, and that a country could still join, but absent the $1 billion, would be limited to a 3 year membership term (after which I'm not sure what would happen).
Have these terms changed?

Still haven't transferred Shrewdm to my new notebook. I tend to destroy notebooks, so I got a refurbished one this time. looks like it's metal. An Hp with Bang and Olufsen speakers. Maybe it'll last longer, I reinforced the plastic on my old one and then broke that. :) Lambo the destroyer! Do we know where the 1 billion to join this Piece Board goes? Enquiring minds want to know!

"Have these terms changed?"
lol, rest assured, in any contractual agreement put out by Trump, the terms will change. A signed agreement with Trump has the weight of a feather in a hurricane.
Any person or entity thinking that Trump plans to honor any agreement is delusional to the nth degree. Trump breaks every contract, that
is a given.
Americans need to pull their collective heads out of their butts.
If Trump is speaking, he's lying. If Trump is putting forth any type
of a contract, he's breaking it.

My impression was the offer withdrawal was due to Carneys scathing (and most excellent) speech at Davos.

I'm pretty sure God On Earth Trump wants $1B from everyone. The lower, 3 year "membership", is for optics, but that isn't what he really wants. That "Board of Peace" is clearly another Trump scam. Trump forms it. Trump makes all the decisions. Trump runs it, apparently, for life. Where does the "membership" fee go? Probably Trump's pocket, as the Board is all about Trump. That is why I call it a "bribe laundering scheme". The stronger, industrial, democracies, are telling him to take a flying leap, because they recognize it for what it is.
Consider the week he's had: that old 74 he started out for Davos in, developed an electrical gremlin, and turned back to Andrews. He had to make the trip in a much smaller plane. There will probably be consequences for Boeing, because they still have not delivered the new 74s they have been putzing around with since Trump's first term. Then he was skunked on Greenland. Then the "first world" industrial democracies rejected his bribe laundering scheme. If any of his aides are smart, they will take a two week vacation, because he is going to be in a vile mood, until he can hurt someone.
I have likened his bribe laundering scheme to the United Way drive at the pump seal company I worked for, in the late 70s: "donate" to make the honchos look good, or suffer consequences. It was basically an extortion racket. One year, before I started with them, management had the nerve to fill in the "donation" amount, before you were given your card. The "donation" they wanted was a lot, far in excess of $20, which itself was a considerable amount of money in the 70s. They didn't pull that stunt again, but it implies management wanted a BIG "donation" from everyone, and, implicitly, consequences for anyone who did not donate as much as management wanted. I expect the same from Trump the Magnificent and Perfect: consequences for anyone who only pays tens of Millions for a 3 year membership.

The speech...and the praise he has received for it. If Carney gets a Nobel Prize, look out. Canada will be a goner.
