Has anyone ever used a rock glue? It's supposed to hold gravel in-place so it doesn't end up on sidewalks, or in grass, or whatever.

We have a strip of gravel between the house and some pavers (around part of the house), and were thinking of applying something like this. It should prevent weed growth. I'm not convinced it will be a water seal, but maybe? We have caliche soil, so if we can keep water away from the soil abutting the house, that's a good thing (very expansive...we have a special foundation because of it, but the house still seems to flex a bit based on ceiling drywall cracking).

Something like this:

Some of the products actually indicate that if they are immersed in water for ~24 hours, you need to reapply. So I'm guessing those aren't sealants.

Very cool looking product. Please let us know how it works for you.

Re waterproofing, what we do when regrading next to foundations is to put in a slight slope away from the house, put down a thick plastic barrier film, and top with mulch or stones. It is crazy how that simple approach has fixed water issues in many of the houses we have bought.

I don't think we'll be trying that product. Apparently, if it is wet for 24 hours, you have to reapply. Seems silly for an outdoor product not to be weatherproof. It doesn't rain often, but when it does the ground can be wet for a couple of days as it rains on and off during that time.

We have the landscape fabric from Costco. I may have to remove the gravel and fabric, check the soil and slope, and put it back. We mostly put that down for weed prevention. But it doesn't allow water to penetrate very well, so it may be functioning as your plastic film is.

If you are going through all that labor, I would get some plastic film and skip the Costco landscape cloth. We have used that in the past and it does just fine letting water through.

If you can get your hands on it, use clay for the slope. Being in VA, we had plenty of that available to us.
