Just thinking out loud with you, though, editing is slightly hard to implement well - not logically, but at the point you are updating an existing resource, you open the door to concurrency problems like contention and locking. From the perspective of community management, it introduces the problem of thread continuity when someone changes or deletes their post after someone else has replied. My most controversial take - and a personal one - is it makes people live with mistakes and have consequences for poor impulse control or bad editing. There is something honest and raw in a forum when you get a single shot to post.
