I was gonna work another 2 years but figured I was likely to get RIF'd (reduction in force, aka fired) in the next couple of months,

She wasn't sure when the initial mysterious emails came.

Her thought process was the same.... take the check because it beats working under the boot of apparatchiks to the bitter end and getting RIF'd with nothing.
