and medical workers to institutionalize people who are considered harmful to themselves or others
for up to 72 hours.

Yet he was still able to get an AR-15.

Was that fact present on his record when the FFL background check was done? If not, was it not reported in error or if not required to be reported, then there is a place where a change in law to require it would be called for.
