Netanyahu rushes to White House to stop Iran deal

Benjamin Netanyahu will visit Washington this week, amid fears in Israel that Donald Trump will strike a weak deal with Iran.

Mr Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, had been expected to travel to the US in mid-February for the first meeting of Mr Trump’s Board of Peace.

But the meeting was brought forward following the initial round of US-Iran talks in Oman on Friday. Jared Kushner, Mr Trump’s son-in-law, and Steve Witkoff, his special envoy, represented the US.

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, has said he wants talks to extend well beyond Iran’s nuclear programme. However, there is unease in Israel that Mr Trump will ultimately favour a “narrow” deal on nuclear enrichment that will do nothing to address Israel’s other concerns.

Any deal that leaves the present regime in place is a complete loss of opportunity for the USA, Israel, and the entire Middle East. There are a lot of problems to be solved over there and none of them are helped by the presence of the Iranian regime. That aside, Trump oversold his degree of support for the brave Iranian protesters. Tens of thousands have died waiting for the US to deliver on a much needed regime change. I hope Trump is just dancing with the mullahs while he continues to muster the necessary resources for a mullah ending military strike. Somewhere I read that part of the prep is an upgrade to Israels missile defense systems since a large swarm of missile attack from Iran can be expected.

Trump calls for new leadership in Iran following nationwide protests

President Donald Trump on Saturday called for regime change in Iran following protests that have roiled the country in recent weeks.

“It’s time to look for new leadership in Iran,” Trump told Politico in an interview.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Trump’s remarks.

Trump’s comments come after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a defiant address Saturday in which he accused Trump of encouraging “agitators,” and said that Iran considers Trump “a criminal, both for the casualties, for the damages, and for the slander directed at the Iranian nation.”

He said key agitators had been detained, and the country’s semiofficial Fars news agency said protests had largely subsided.

Given that Trump the God advocated shooting USian demonstrators, I don't think anyone took that nonsense he was blathering seriously.

Tens of thousands have died waiting for the US to deliver on a much needed regime change.

There is wide divergence in those estimates. Some of the estimators have a vested interest in pushing the US into a war with Iran.

Even the highest of the estimates of Iranian dead, are puny compared to the civilian body count of the US invasion and "regime change" op in Iraq: 100,000-500,000. The population of Iran is almost double that of Iraq. Do you really want the US to get into a bloodbath of that scale, for the ease and comfort of supposed "allies" in the region?
