Yeah it sounds like a Marvel comic title but it's really about who is in the government.

Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte was the “driving force” behind the Department of Justice’s decision to launch a criminal investigation into the Federal Reserve, according to a report.
The DOJ served the central bank with grand jury subpoenas on Friday as it probes testimony given by the Fed’s chairman, Jerome Powell, to the Senate Banking Committee last June about the cost of renovations to the bank’s historic headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Why doesn't spell check work when I want it too?

This is simply not a big deal at all, assuming Powell is "clean."
Even Powell himself, for reasons unknown, hasn't said there is no basis for the DOJ investigation.
Which is very, very strange.
What Powell actually said/implied was that this was a purely political attack on the independence of the Fed.
The Fed is and remains accountable for how it spends the public's money, just like any other Federal agency.
It would have been nice if Powell had acknowledge that obligation.
It would have been nice if Powell had come right out and point blank said that the construction project that the Fed is being investigated for is faultless and the investigation will give the Fed and Powell a completely clean bill of health.
Let's agree Trump sucks.
"Trump sucks" is not a defense for Powell or the Fed if it turns out they didn't manage this project correctly.
I'm assuming that Powell himself doesn't actually manage this stuff, someone from the GSA probably does, but apparently as Fed Chair, he has overall responsibility for it.
Evidently there was a $700 million cost overrun on the project. That's not itself alarming, I imagine these kinds of projects frequently have cost overruns just like when you renovate your kitchen and it ends up costing 3x the initial estimate.
It would have been nice if Powell had addressed this in his whiny little speech the other day.

Pulte wants low interest rates so that Pulte Homes can qualify more people for the mcmansions the company builds. Yes, same Pulte. The more mcmansions Pulte Homes sells, the richer Bill Pulte becomes. Because conflict of interest is a "traditional American family value". (file under weaponized DoJ)

That may be so, Steve. Pulte may have self-interested motivations for instigating an investigation of Powell.
Now to the merits--Why hasn't Powell come out forthrightly and denied any wrongdoing?
Pretty strange omission, if you ask me.

We’ve got an ICE caravan coming to your blue neighborhood, commie!

Maybe because there have been cost overruns? Cost overruns are SOP when the government is involved. I was heartened when Trump started screeching at the weapons industry, for burning so much government money, without actually delivering much of anything.
Powell can't say there are no cost overruns, if there are. He will need to mount a defense, if he can, for why he is not accountable for the cost overruns. Why Powell is being investigated, but not the "war department" for gross negligence regarding taxpayer dollars, is a political question, but that isn't what the investigation is about.

What is the budgeted figure for the new ballroom?
For some strange reason, and I don’t have a clue why I think this…..
But….
The investigation of Powell is just pretext, and it doesn’t have a damned thing to do with cost overruns.
Show me the man and I will find the crime.

What is the budgeted figure for the new ballroom?
That is supposedly entirely paid for with bribes.

O.K. so then Powell should just STFU, do his job, and stop playing politics.
He's subject to investigation, just like Trump, just like the Clintons, right?

.K. so then Powell should just STFU, do his job, and stop playing politics.
He was doing precisely that.
But then Trump ordered a bogus investigation of him and Bondi complied.
Funny how the people who don’t do the crooked things that Trump wants them to do….. end up being investigated.
OF COURSE Powell is going to make a public statement about it. You’re just upset that the statement he made didn’t get down in the mud with Trump.
Show me the man and I will find the crime.

No, he wasn't. Powell was playing the politician.
The Fed, and Powell, are not immune from oversight.
He should STFU and be investigated.
Stop whining to the press.
If he thinks the investigation is unlawful the Fed has LOTS of lawyers to go to court and get an injunction to stop it.
But otherwise Powell--STFU.
You aren't above the President, Congress, or the Judiciary.
If you did something wrong, then take your lumps.
If you didn't the investigation will bear that out.

Yeah coming out forthrightly and denied any wrongdoing is proof of innocence. Just ask the felon with 34 fraud convictions, the adjudicated sexual abuser, fraudulent charity operator, fraudulent university proprietor who forthrightly lied about any his wrongdoings every time.
