> I rather expect a future like the evolution of TV. First the ads. Then too many ads. Then ad blockers/avoiders.
Why? Changing from an 'AI with ads' to 'AI with no ads' is as easy as going to the site itself in the first place (e.g. navigating to gemini vs chatgpt).
Why would someone stay and keep watching more and more ads?
Why would they go to the problem of an adblocker when it's 10x less effort to just use a different AI and they all work the same anyway?
This isn't like Google search where for a decade or more, there was a marked quality difference between their results and competitor results.
They all produce the same thing. On questions where there is any real difference, it's seldom in Google's favour.
And in the meantime, of course, local AI is getting so much better on a daily basis (and AI-as-a-service getting worse*, except at the most premium tiers) that it's getting harder to justify going to a web AI at all.
