Just an idea: What about like WhatsApp allowing editing for 15min or so after posting?

Would not only enable people to quick to push "Send" (ahemm, me)

a) to correct their mistakes
b) to add what they forgot
c) but - and especially you should like that - result in a more civilised tone, because after posting polutical* posts in ire one has some minutes to cool down and regret what one just posted, softening it, making it non-attacking

*Left unchanged as typed by purpose 😉

Maybe even deleting ones own post in the first X minutes after posting?

Clearly I (Mr. "Happy 3rd Birthday Shrewdm", et al.) could use this.

Just thinking out loud with you, though, editing is slightly hard to implement well - not logically, but at the point you are updating an existing resource, you open the door to concurrency problems like contention and locking. From the perspective of community management, it introduces the problem of thread continuity when someone changes or deletes their post after someone else has replied. My most controversial take - and a personal one - is it makes people live with mistakes and have consequences for poor impulse control or bad editing. There is something honest and raw in a forum when you get a single shot to post.

I am grateful for the preview button, though.
