I have thought about it. I foresee a series of reactions. Trump is elected President and Project 2025 does as much damage as it can, and we react to it by electing Gavin Newsom or the like.

Right there is the fault in your thinking. If Project 2025 does it's damage, you won't be able to elect Newsom or the like. Project 2025 will tilt the tables so heavily toward Republicans that electing a Democrat for president will not be possible, nor will getting a Democrat majority in the House or Senate.
