https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-hea...There is CO, of course. But NO2 is the bigger concern. It is associated with increased rates of breathing problems in both children and adults. If one must use gas, we are doing the correct thing by using the vent hood.
Our gas grill also has a side burner. We often use that for long simmers, but that was because we didn't want to heat up the house (Arizona, remember). Turns out that was also good for reducing indoor pollution. But our vent hood is powerful. Turning it on isn't really a hassle, we just have to get into the habit. Which we're doing.
Of course, neither of those situations reduce OUTDOOR pollution (our hood vents outside).
We also have a gas water heater. Next time it fails (every 7 or 8 years), I may replace it with an electric. We'll see. There is an outlet handy there.
