The United States is preparing to deploy a military presence at an airbase near Damascus as part of efforts to support a potential security agreement between Syria and Israel, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter to Reuters.

If confirmed, the deployment would mark the first direct U.S. military presence in the Syrian capital and signal a notable shift in the regional balance of power following the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last year.

The base, located on the outskirts of Damascus with access routes to southern Syria, is expected to serve as a hub for monitoring and logistics related to a proposed non-aggression pact between Syria and Israel. The agreement, still under negotiation, would create a demilitarized zone along the southern border as part of broader efforts to stabilize Syria after years of civil war.

The U.S. is planning to build a large new military base near Gaza for future use by an international peacekeeping force, according to Israeli news outlet Shomrim, which cited Israeli security sources.

The proposed base, which would reportedly cost $500 million and be capable of housing thousands of U.S. troops, would dramatically expand the American military’s presence in Israel. The plan also bolsters speculation that the Trump administration hopes to play a hands-on role in the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza following reports about Washington’s growing contributions to aid provision and even housing development in the war-torn region.

"reconstruction of Gaza"-you know the Gaza Riviera btochere below:

A document detailing plans for post-war Gaza aims to make President Donald Trump's "Gaza Riviera" vision a reality — using mass displacement, artificial intelligence, and at least a decade of U.S. trusteeship over the war-ravaged enclave.

It also calls for the entirety of Gaza's population of two million to be relocated, at least temporarily, through either what it calls voluntary departures to another country, or the moving of residents into temporary housing areas within the Strip during reconstruction.

The plan was developed by some of the same Israelis behind the controversial U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), according to the Washington Post, which first reported on the document.

A real estate developer's dream.

Having 2 new military bases in volatile ME regions could lead potential conflicts that could have macroeconomic impact on the USA.

Nah. We already have 19 of them there. I say round it up to a nice even two dozen, then just take the goddamn place over, like we did with the native Americans. I don’t know what we’ll do with all the people there, round them up and put them on reservations maybe. We’re getting some practice with that now what with ICE raids and all.

Ah, it’s a bright new future, and almost exactly what he promised. Except for the war part, and the prices rising, and the cruelty and White House destruction and stuff. But hey, wasn’t that flyover great?!

We got lucky with Native Americans. We only had to kill a few hundred thousand, rather than the 3-6 million there before disease killed them.

Yes, those small pox germ laden blankets the British Colonists provided the tribes were simply bad luck.

That military base "near Gaza" is likely to be carved out of Gaza - as Israel wouldn't want to contribute its land to the endeavor.

In the meantime, it looks like Syria is about to get crowded again:

Syria's new government has expressed openness to letting Russia keep its military bases, including the naval base at Tartus, provided that a deal benefits Syria. This comes after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad and follows discussions to recalibrate relations between the two countries, with Russia keen to maintain its strategic presence and Syria seeking political, economic, or military benefits in exchange.

Syrian government's stance: Syria's new defense minister stated that keeping the bases is possible if "we get benefits for Syria out of this," indicating that a new agreement would need to serve Damascus' interests, says Business Insider and The Moscow Times.

Russia's interest: Russia is keen to maintain its strategic foothold in the region, which includes the crucial Tartus naval base and the Hmeimim air base, notes Yahoo.
Recent talks: In October 2025, Syria's interim president met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, and while neither leader publicly addressed the bases, the talks are ongoing to redefine the relationship and discuss the future of the bases, reports the BBC.

Key issues: Besides the bases, negotiations are expected to cover the potential extradition of Bashar al-Assad, who has been in Russia, and Syria may also seek Russian support against potential Israeli demands for a demilitarized zone.

Yes, those small pox germ laden blankets the British Colonists provided the tribes were simply bad luck.

From what I've read small pox was already there among the Indians, and nothing shows the blankets transmitted.

https://www.history.com/articles/colonists-native-...

William Trent, a trader, land speculator and militia captain, wrote in his diary that on June 23, two Delaware emissaries had visited the fort, and asked to hold talks the next day. At that meeting, after the Native American diplomats had tried unsuccessfully to persuade the British to abandon Fort Pitt, they asked for provisions and liquor for their return. The British complied and also gave them gifts—two blankets and a handkerchief which had come from the smallpox ward. “I hope it will have the desired effect,” Trent wrote.

Though it’s not completely clear who perpetrated the biological warfare attack, documentary evidence points to Trent as the probable culprit. As detailed in Fenn’s 2000 article, the trader later submitted an invoice to the British military for purchasing two blankets and a silk handkerchief “to Replace in kind those which were taken from people in the Hospital to Convey the Smallpox to the Indians.” Ecuyer certified that the items were used to spread smallpox, which indicates that he may have been in on the attempt as well. British Gen. Thomas Gage, who succeeded Amherst that year as colonial commander, eventually approved the payment.

“That’s the one documented case that we have,” says Paul Kelton, a historian at Stony Brook University, and author of two books on the role of epidemics in the European takeover of the Americas. It’s not known whether Bouquet actually followed up on Amherst’s letter and made additional attempts on his own to spread smallpox to the Native Americans, he says....

...Historian Philip Ranlet of Hunter College and author of a 2000 article on the smallpox blanket incident in Pennsylvania History: A Journal of Mid-Atlantic Studies, also casts doubt. “There is no evidence that the scheme worked,” Ranlet says. “The infection on the blankets was apparently old, so no one could catch smallpox from the blankets. Besides, the Indians just had smallpox—the smallpox that reached Fort Pitt had come from Indians—and anyone susceptible to smallpox had already had it.”

The most important indication that the scheme was a bust, Ranlet says, “is that Trent would have bragged in his journal if the scheme had worked. He is silent as to what happened.”
