It is easy for the US to attack tankers in the Caribbean, but the US doesn't have many bases in the Indian Ocean.

A carrier group, by itself, is sort of useless. You need a port within reasonable range, where you can pretend to provide "legal due process", before auctioning off the ship and cargo, and pocketing the cash.
I saw a piece on the wire, a week or two back, that ship breakers are reaching out to the US, wanting to bid on the old tubs the US has seized.

as mentioned before, if india truly believed highly discounted russian oil was not durable, then might as well get it free until its gone.
( i do not rule out that putin may give trump a stern phone call that changes things)
china a bit trickier , given its exports to russia are where its profits are at a premium.
on a somewhat related note, india seems the country most ambitious to straddle the america\china polarization of trade, and i believe they will have\use\increase their gold reserve massively towards this ambition.
india will increase their naval power for one reason only, which is to have strategic leverage over china via a blockade (as needed) of middle east fossil fuel. as such, they could also extract huge favors from america in case of a china blockade of taiwan.

In early 2000's let's just say ---- I was in a place where said carrier was visible to my eye.
And someone (a Brigadier General not of USA) sort of pointed our carrier out at a distance to me.
He said --- this is America, India, and China.
If Taliban elements were to stage a coup on Musharaff (the suit du jour that naive dumb-shit Westerners were paying off at the time), the Americans and Indians were on the ready to commandeer the nukes, and some of the equipment was immediately to be taken to China.
If true - I dunno, seems like a good idea.
