Definitely did not see this one coming.
13 Scaramucci's was a pretty good run though.

I'm glad that I am not a Tesla shareholder. First he alienates all non-Maga shareholders and customers, then he becomes an opponent of Mr Trump and all those who follow his line. That doesn't leave a lot of the world's population to have positive views of the brand!
Perhaps those who have taken meetings with him may one day be seen in the same way as those who took meetings with Mr Epstein. Justifiably or not, in both cases.
I've had a business associate and house guest who ended up in jail for something very serious, apparently deservedly. I guess that makes me toxic too. Again, justifiably or not.

How ridiculous does the US look right now in the eyes of non-US investors?
Ridiculousness per se is not so bad. "Misce stultitiam consiliis brevem; dulce est desipere in loco", after all.
(from Horace: "Mix a little foolishness with your prudence; it's good to be silly at the right moment", as written on my mother's grave)
No, based on the investor folks I know, pretty much all ex-US, the feeling is more towards the "maybe a little unsafe for your capital" end of the spectrum.
Financial Times headline today: "Big investors shift away from US markets"
...
“The US has been the best place in the world to invest for a century, but I’m starting to hear investors question whether US exceptionalism is a little less exceptional, and think about whether to position their portfolios accordingly,” Howard Marks
Admittedly part of it is probably cyclical. If US equity markets were attractively priced, the mood would probably be different.
But nosebleed prices combined with capricious rule of law is not an attractive mix for a portfolio manager. From a jurisdiction risk point of view, the US now clearly has the profile of an emerging market, without a doubt. Still tons of money to be made, but where? The old rules on how to spot the opportunities and risks no longer apply. For a typical US stock, how much of the price movement in the last few months is a function of the knowable prospects of the underlying businesses? Close to zip.

It’s still not clear what Musk is referring to?
It's fairly old news that Trump flew on Epstein's jet many different times in the 1990's from flight logs that were made public, and Trump was admitted to being an acquaintance of Epstein's during much of this period.
Musk's comments may be written to "technically" be true in reference to those flights, and maybe that protects him from a possible defamation lawsuit. But everyone knows what he's really implying by his comments: that Trump had partaken in Epstein's illicit activities.
Musk appears to be using this fact to take an incredibly hard jab at Trump in response to his recent unfavorable comments about him. It may just be ammo for his feud, unless of course, there's something more that Musk truly knows about the subject that the public does not.
In any case, I can't recall many public blowouts bigger than this between such prominent, high profile figures.

He's referring to the complete lack of decorum and lack of self-respect of either man.

“ unless of course, there's something more that Musk truly knows about the subject that the public does not.“ It’s inconceivable that Musk knows something that Obama and Biden wouldn’t have used to prevent Trump from running again and winning. Musk may be on very thin ice again.

IEUR and SCZ and steady MELI (EWZ too?) just keep melting up.
US LC is in the weakest relative position it's been in over 10 years. And US Small Caps... ouch. The small businesses most affected by this endless tariff crazy talk - hammered.
Find the money rivers. It's not just the Mag7 anymore.

war, there is no telling where this ends?
I see three possibilities.
1. Musk ending up much smaller, with a very brown nose. There were already indications late today that this is happening.
2. Musk ending up like Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
3. Musk ending up like Alexei Navalny.
In all cases, Trump ends up further consolidating his dictatorial power, and further destroying America as we've known it.
Power trumps money (pun intended).

Warren comes to mind, his "Invest only in companies which will survive even when run by an idiot --- because at some point in time this will happen". Not looking up the quote this surely is not literal, but you know what's meant. Just replace "company" by "country".
Btw: I do NOT hereby say Trump is an idiot. It´s not a comment on the person, but on the turmoil and the reputation of the US he and Musk create.
The real lesson: Power + money is such a dangerous mix that societies should limit how much one person/company can get:
a) I never understood the US political system which requires to be filthy rich to be able to come to the top, and/or to bend to other filthy rich ones (and their wishes!) to support your campaign with their money. Now I finally KNOW that the in this respect very different European political systems are indeed not only more democratic, but less dangerous.
b) All this is an illuminating example why it should not be possible for one single person to become so filthy rich, whether his name is Trump, Musk, Zuckerberg, Thiel, Gates, Buffett or whatever. Mountains of money = Power and influence unlimited --- in the hands of ONE single person!
And the same goes for companies which should not be allowed to become too large and thereby too powerful and influental, whether their names are Facebook, Google, Amazon, Pfizer, J&J, Berkshire ........

“ @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” How many, names, are in the Epstein files? Thousands? We already know Trump and Epstein were friends decades ago, what’s Musk suggesting? I’m surprised Tesla didn’t drop 50 percent. Let’s see what the loyal tsla supporters do and say today? What an embarrassment to be an American🥲

No. In the end they might try to pretend that was what was going on, but no. It is a zero possibility.

I expect it's the same non-zero possibility that Paul Pelosi was attacked by his gay lover, as Musk once proposed.

I know. I know. Not pretending. Not playing 4-D chess. One is a drug addled egomaniac. The other is a narcissistic psychopath who doesn't know how to play chess.
I guess for some there's a deep need for a mystical explanation when the wheels come off the wagon completely.
