Don't let anyone else have an army.

Twitter this morning is filled with sh!tposting of the events in Russia. Videos have been posted on Twitter of civilians in Rostov bringing food and water to Wagner Group fighters. There are reports that Putin reached out to Tokayev in Kazakhstan (a CSTO -- the Russian version of NATO -- ally of Russia) to inform him about the situation in Russia and Tokayev said that the ongoing events there are an internal affair of Russia. IOW, count us out.

A residential plane was recorded leaving Moscow but the Kremlin insists Putin is still working in the capital, hunkered down. Trying to remember but there seems to be an important historical event when a dictator hunkered down in a bunker somewhere.

Video of Russian military helicopters bombing fuel depots held by the Wagner Group in the Voronezh region are online.

Chatter is that Wagner forces have seized more Russian territory in one day than Russian forces occupy after 16 months of war in Ukraine.

Huh. Rather than Kyiv, maybe Moscow falls in three days?

Reports suggest Russia's entire 22nd Special Forces Brigade has switched to Prigozhin's side.

Putin's full national address condemning the insurrection is available online. Putin invoked 1917 in his speech today, a strange analogy indeed.

And hey, Putin did what Trump wouldn't: condemned an insurrection.

Interestingly, this could all be decided by Russian military units simply deciding to sit this one out.

Poland has put its military on high alert amid developments in Russia.

Thank God -- on topic -- Biden is president. Trump would be sending lawyers, guns, and money to help Putin.

This is fascinating and very scary. We do live in interesting times.

US Intelligence must have some idea as to Yevgeny Prigozhin's end game. President Prigozhin? Restoring the Soviet Union? What's his motivation?

Well, you'd have a point if I actually wrote anything like that. But I didn't.

Thank you, though, for illustrating once again how the Trump Cult are like the dogs in the Gary Larson "What We Say to Dogs/What They Hear" cartoon:

Between the NYT maps and Heather Cox Richardson's analysis, it sounds like the Wagner guys resupplied in Rostov and are headed to Moscow, pedal to the metal, roaring up the M4 to Moscow.

Well, you'd have a point if I actually wrote anything like that. But I didn't.

Actually I did find your post quite interesting.

I don't follow Twitter and of late only local news and occasionally check the shrewdm. Too busy enjoying summer and road trips.

Your post did lead me to check further on the subject.

The problem is you cannot resist the temptation to invoke Trump in your posts and go off subject. My eyes blur over and I hit next, not finishing what might be of interest to me. I'm sure I am not the only one.

Get over your obsession with Trump especially when posting a news worthy post.
The right of center doesn't care and most certainly I do not. Trump put downs are all so yesterday.

As the de facto leader of the Republican party, pretending criticisms of Trump are anything but current is delusional, dishonest and ludicrous.

Trump is the puppet master of elected Republican officials at all levels of governance. From the US Senate to the lowliest city councilperson, any who don't support Trump's culture wars and lies can expect to suffer the wrath of the Trumpenkult .

Yes, as you and the left likes to believe.

With the now presidential elections underway, thoughts and changes are underway, even
RFK JR is sounding good to many.
Voters are not caring about the past Trump era and the worn out putdowns that has nothing
to do with the here and now.

Yes, follow up on the present today Trump and what he has to offer as well as the field
of candidates on both sides. Yesterday is gone, the future and what ALL candidates have
to say is what we should be focus on.

If Prighozin's coup does topple Putin, who will lead the Republican party?

Answering my own question: Prighozin himself can, once again, help Trump regain the Oval Office and show him how to be an effective strongman.

" Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Russian private military company Wagner, admitted on Tuesday to founding the Internet Research Agency (IRA), a notorious troll farm that the US government has sanctioned for interfering in American elections.

A Wagner Telegram channel on Tuesday published a statement from Prigozhin, asking him to react to the suggestion that he was the founder of the agency.

'I react with pleasure,' Prigozhin said in the statement. 'I've never just been the financier of the Internet Research Agency. I invented it, I created it, I managed it for a long time. It was founded to protect the Russian information space from boorish aggressive propaganda of anti-Russian narrative from the West.'

There's no doubt that Prighozin and Trump, like Kim Jong Un, Duterte, and Bolsonaro will get along famously.

"Mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous; and if one holds his state based on these arms, he will stand neither firm nor safe; for they are disunited, ambitious and without discipline, unfaithful, valiant before friends, cowardly before enemies; they have neither the fear of God nor fidelity to men, and [one's own] destruction is deferred only so long as the attack is..."

Shrug....

Keep your two 'left' ears focus on yesterday.
You only hear what is dictated to you from the dem bosses.

Anyhow I'm off now for another Road Trip. Will follow the 'Lincoln Highway' for several days.

Look it up, it's quite interesting. The only highway in America that runs coast to coast.
Love the small towns and its people. We focus now on small town USA, done with round the world
traveling.

Interesting history and sights along the way, (did Route 66 in part last summer)

LurkerMom: Will follow the 'Lincoln Highway' for several days.

I grew up a couple of miles from Lincoln Highway and crossed it every single day going back and forth to high school. And then drove it after high school to work in the steel mill to earn money for college. While I do not have any nostalgia for the small town America where I grew up or for Lincoln Highway -- for me, it was an unspectacular road in a very poor town -- I do recommend the Amor Towles novel, "The Lincoln Highway," one of the better written books of 2021.

If you're a vacation reader, I'd also recommend "A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II" by Sonia Purcell, "The Dutch House" by Ann Patchett, "Small Things Like These" by Claire Keegan (small town life in Ireland... although her book "Foster" may actually be a better small town book), "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus, "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt, "Trust" by Hernan Diaz, "Lucy by the Sea" by Elizabeth Strout (or any of her 'Lucy' novels), "Hello, Beautiful" by Ann Napolitano and "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver (a retelling of 'David Copperfield' in small town America in opioid-ravaged rural Tennessee). Each title is available as an audio book, perfect for car travel. And you can check them for trigger warnings on Goodreads.

For some remarkably enjoyable science fiction that will appeal even to those who do not like science fiction, read the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.

Interesting. I actually lived on the Lincoln Highway in DeKalb IL for about six months during my transition from my hometown NYC to the midwest.

Thank you for the book recommendations. I have had a renewed interest reading books after a long dry spell loss of interest. I'll be sure to check out some of your titles.

We never used a definite article with Lincoln Highway. No "the". But then we usually called it Route 30 or just 30 where we lived, likely because it was fewer syllables.

You might also like the Kopp Sisters series by Amy Stewart, set in the early 20th century ("Girl Waits with Gun" is the first title in the series), the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny, and the Cork O'Connor series by William Kent Krueger ("Iron Lake" is the first book in that series). Oh, and Fredrik Backman's "A Man Called Ove".

So many books, so little time.

Rt 30 and Lincoln Highway, one and the same.
We spent one night in DeKalb. Their main street going through town (Rt30) street signs are still with the name Lincoln Highway.

So many books, so little time.

do recommend the Amor Towles novel, "The Lincoln Highway,

I ordered this book via Walmart. Looking forward to reading it.
