Trump does not want immigration reform and he will do whatever he can to oppose the current bill. A bill that is supported by conservative Senators like James Lankford. Like Cheney before him Lankford may be dooming his political career by standing up to Trump and the MAGA mob. Trying to do what is right for the American people does not count with the MAGAs, all things must accord with Trump's narcissistic needs.

For many years now, conservative media and right-wing immigration hawks have done an exceptional job making any Republican who would dare work with Democrats on immigration regret their life choices.

Repeatedly in recent days, Lankford has taken on critics directly. He has suggested that his own conservative allies are spreading misinformation about the deal (whose text has yet to be released). He’s effectively accused them of choosing political expediency and presidential campaign politics over border security. And significantly, he’s had some backup from other Senate Republicans.

It appears unlikely that the deal will ultimately become law; even if it passes in the Senate, its prospects in the House appear dim. But as hopes for it have dwindled, Lankford has doubled down on spending his political capital.

Imagine that...a Republican with guts, not just another quivering, boot-licking Quisling.

Yes, Lankford's work on the border bill is "admirable" (for a GOP member), but he's still waffling on Trump's many court cases and has no issues with him returning to the White House. Here he is just last week on Face The Nation - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/james-lankford-face-t...

MARGARET BRENNAN: Okay. Before I let you go, I want to get your reaction to the news that he was ordered to pay $83 million to a person that a jury found he defamed after a separate jury found that he had sexually assaulted her. Does it give you any pause about him returning to office?

SEN. LANKFORD: It doesn't. Obviously, these are legal cases. I don't want to jump in the middle of a legal case. It's been interesting the number of legal cases that have come up against President Trump and then have failed and had been dropped or had been kicked out of the courts on it. This one's actually went through. He's already said he's going to challenge it. So let the courts actually make their decisions and let the American people make their decisions. We got states like Colorado that are trying to be able to block the people of Colorado from being able to choose who they vote for. Let the American people decide this in November.
