Steve Ballmer was interviewed on the most recent episode of the Acquired podcast. He is the eight richest person in the world mostly because he simply "held the damn stock." Outside of Microsoft, his investments include the LA Clippers (a passion project), a company called Stagwell Media, and other than that, mostly index funds.

If you are interested at all in MSFT it is well worth checking out.

If you have 2 minutes, here's the most classic clip of Ballmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywi0h_Y5_U

I know it's easy to play armchair CEO, but business is hard out there.

Oooh, harsh history. You almost pity the guy that the clip is on line, and Mr Ballmer is a hard fellow to pity. I imagine that by now most folks have said something in public they later regret : )

I once said nice things about investment banks and brokers as a good investment to hold for half a year, late 2007 IIRC. Including Lehman Brothers. Oops. As an interesting side note, Lehman was still part of Amex when Berkshire built its big stake (for the second and final time) in the early 1990s.

Well said...

Batting 1000 is impossible. Batting 400 almost impossible these days.

Batting 300 + for a long career may get you in the HOF.

Indeed, looks like he has patiently sat on his derrière & still owns 4% of MSFT through thick & thin ~$150B. Well played, sir!

I am sorry but nothing tops the "classicness" of this Ballmer clip. Nothing!
20 seconds of pure (possibly cocaine-fueled) crazy.
