Oil could hit $175 a barrel, says United Airlines boss

United Airlines said it was scrapping flights on less-profitable routes following a doubling of jet fuel prices since February.

Scott Kirby, the airline’s chief executive, said the moves were part of steps to prepare for a scenario in which oil hits $175 (£131) a barrel and remains above $100 through 2027.

The TV news was, of course, hysterical about that $175 number. They didn't mention this part, farther down in the article:

In a memo to staff, the chief executive said: “Honestly, I think there’s a good chance it won’t be that bad – but there isn’t much downside for us ⁠to preparing for that outcome.”

One of the US big oil honchos said that about Venezuela. At the time, I figured he was angling for another government handout: subsidies and profit guarantees. I doubt the CEO understood that burning down the entire Persian Gulf was part of Trump the Conqueror's plan.

But, I also think that it is no coincidence that Trump the Conqueror made sure he had control of Venezuelan crude locked up, before he started the war. iirc, back in January, as soon as he made himself the new Generalissimo in VZ, I was posting, on this board, speculations about how he could disrupt production in the Persian Gulf, to make the VZ venture pay off bigly. It was easy enough to cut off Iranian exports, but, to make a real dent in the market, I said he would need to take Iraq off line too.

Ta-da! Iraq is off line. I knew there is a pipeline from the northern Iraqi fields, through Turkey. Apparently, that line is shut down, due to the Baghdad government and the Kurds being in some sort of snit; So, Iraq is really off line.

I'm glad I don't have any loot in producers or sellers of discretionary goods.

The GOP never wanted the government doing airport security, and, in particular, didn't want TSA unionized. This gives them a perfect excuse to either fold TSA into ICE, or turn the job back over to rent-a-cops, so their cronies can make a profit off it.

Thing is, there are not enough storm troopers. iirc, ICE has increased it's force to some 22,000, but TSA employs about 50,000. Of course, if they implement Plan Steve, to fold TSA into ICE, then the existing TSA screeners can be brought on force, as soon as they are issued camo, masks, and given that 47 days of thug training.
