Hi,
I'm learning about money market funds. I have a few questions, but I'll start with the little I do know about money market funds. During the 2007-2008 crashes I remember the money market tanked (?), so I never considered them as part of my investments, however short-sighted that may have been, or not. I understand that for a period, at the time, the funds were $.97 on the dollar; I don't know for how long, and what was done, so that's another thing i need to research.
Recently, I found that my brother-in-law uses a money market to pay expenses for an on-going trust. He's pretty conservative. I have a lot of cash and have put some into treasuries, recently. I still have some sloshing around and wondered if some of it could go into a money market, maybe a government treasury type?
Does anyone have any thoughts about the safety of money markets right now? And are there any safe ways to do this??
Also, is there a good book that would provide a detailed but readable overview of the 2008 financial crisis??
Thank you!
Elizabeth
