Live updates: Iran’s military command says it has closed Hormuz again over US blockade

CAIRO (AP) — The British military said Saturday that two gunboats from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran said it has reimposed restrictions on the vital waterway.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said the tanker and crew were reported safe, without identifying the vessel or its destination.

Iran announced earlier Saturday it was reimposing restrictions on the strait in response to a U.S. blockade on Iranian shipping and ports. Iran has prevented vessels from crossing throughout the seven-week-long war, except for ones it authorizes.

Seems Trump the Conqueror's declaration of victory was premature, just like his other near daily announcements of victory have been. Iran denies it has agreed to give up it's U, which Trump the Scientist insists on calling "nuclear dust". Iran says strait closed, because Trump the Pirate King did not stop his blockade. And, seems Iran still has a Navy, in spite of Trump the Perfect insisting their Navy had been destroyed.

I have wondered, for six weeks. Seems the answer is becoming clear. Trump the Magnificent is Baghdad Bob. The Mullahs are more trustworthy than the POTUS. Give me a second to get my head around that.

On 25 June 2003, British newspaper Daily Mirror reported that al-Sahhaf had been captured by coalition troops at a roadblock in Baghdad on 23 June.[6] The report was not confirmed by military authorities and was denied by al-Sahhaf's family through Abu Dhabi TV. The next day, al-Sahhaf recorded an interview for Riyadh-based news channel al-Arabiya.[19] He was reportedly paid as much as US$200,000 for the television interview. During the interview, he appeared very withdrawn, in contrast with the bombastic persona he projected during the war. Many of his answers consisted of a simple "yes" or "no". He refused to speculate on the causes of the downfall of the Iraqi government.

Al-Sahhaf's fame quickly evaporated as the war continued into the insurgency phase; from the middle of 2003 onward, he faded from the public spotlight, and was no longer a figure in the war. Al-Sahhaf said that he had surrendered to United States forces, had been interrogated by them, and had been released.[20][21] He was not charged for his role in Saddam Hussein's government.[21]

In January 2004, The Guardian reported that al-Sahhaf had been hired by Abu Dhabi TV to provide expert commentary on Saddam.[10]

In March 2008, it was reported by The Times that al-Sahhaf was living in the United Arab Emirates.

iirc, we didn't see much of Saddam during the invasion. "Bob" was the regime's public face. Trump insists that he be the center of attention, at all times, so he is the most prolific spewer of counter-factual delusions. The other hangers on, like Kegsbreth and Vance, are playing to an audience of one, feeding Trump the God's delusions.

A couple of interesting bits: at the 3:15 mark, discussion of unusually large sales of Brent crude futures, just before Trump the Peacemaker blathered his latest "peace is at hand" bit. At the 10:35 mark, the US announces extending Russian sanction relief for another month. Lukashenko signing on to Trump's "Board of Peace" bribe laundering scheme, and Belarus receiving sanction relief. At 14:30 an Iranian proposing that Trump make all those claims on Friday, which were immediately denied by Iran, so that, in a few days, Trump the Conqueror can complain that Iran welshed on all those promises, and he can use that as an excuse to resume the war.
