Will it be Buffett’s last or Abel’s first?

I expect Buffett would like to write one last farewell letter. But maybe Abel will write a short one too.

I find it surprising that Buffett would not inform Abel about the decision before announcing it publicly.

Not really. At first I wished I could see Abel´s face that moment, whether he looked shocked, with open mouth --- only to realise the next second that the inner circle is far too close for that, that surely for none of them it was a surprise.

I am just sad that an era comes to an end, that from I will have to watch old AR videos now, with Charlie & Warren, as without Warren in the middle of the scene and leading the talk it´s not interesting for me anymore.

But mainly I am worried for a man I admire and for whom I wished he could do until the very end what he loves so much to do: Coming tapdancing to work.

I still hope for him he can do that to his last minute.

I’m also sad and a bit worried for him. This has been his life, and it has to be so hard to give it up.

I owe so much to this man. I started investing in him as a young man in my early 30s, and now I’m an oldish man in his 60s who was able to retire early and well because of his leadership and guidance.

I hear you, I found him much later, but retired early and have done well investing alongside a CEO who I can respect and trust.

Being a human sucks. I don't know how you guys do it.
Maybe it's the weather, unusually dark and muggy in the normally sunny Southern California. For some unexplainable reason I got a lump in my throat hearing Mr Buffett say he would be stepping down. Berkshire is just an investment I hope to make more money off of than an index fund. It's not like they know me or I, them.

Mr Buffett as non-CEO may feel a little more free to say what he wants, in op-eds and suchlike. So you may see fewer annual letter words from him, but perhaps more total words?

I found it somewhere between depressing and scary that in a recent interview he said he was unable to comment on the economy.

As an unrelated point, maybe if he does write such things, we should take then with a wee grain of salt. The old saying about science may apply: if an elderly and respected scientist says that something in his field is impossible, count on it happening within 20 years.

The Kingswell blog noted that Buffett signs the annual letter as Chairman. Since he continues as Chairman maybe he will continue to write a letter as Chairman, albeit a shorter one. Abel can write a longer one detailing Berkshire performance.

I also liked this quote. Beautifully encapsulates what the AGM and investing in Berkshire means to me.

In an interview before Buffett’s bombshell, Activision co-founder Bobby Kotick (and friend of the late Charlie Munger) perfectly captured the Berkshire AGM’s deeper significance to so many. “This event is a reminder of how important capitalism is as the foundation of democracy,” he said. “It’s almost like a religious experience from that perspective.” His words reflect the reverence many attendees feel for Berkshire — not just as a financial titan, but as a philosophy rooted in patience, prudence, and long-term thinking.
