Does this eventually threaten the advantage rail transport has vs trucks? Is BNSF’s moat less sturdy than assumed?
We won't have to worry this for a long time. Basically, rail is much cheaper than trucks especially for heavy stuff over long distances. But trucks are much easier and more convenient. Trucks go when you want, where you want, don't have to change modes, etc. Electric Class 8 trucks might be a cheaper than conventional trucks, but they are not well suited to heavy loads or long distances, where trucks already don't compete well with rail. So I don't think this is an issue for now.
