I hate to admit it, but these things are a fact of life.

Yep. Just like school shootings. Nothing we can do about them. Just ask Vance.
On a less snarky note, I will not mourn at all when the convict is pushing up daisies. But I prefer it to be natural causes, not a bullet**. Democracy shouldn't be decided via bullets. Ballots are much better.
**Unless the convict himself pulls the trigger. I've always thought that it is part of personal autonomy whether to end your own life, or fight for it. That's not a choice I think anyone else should make for a person.

I agree 100%. However, I don't want him to take himself out. I agree with your principle on that, but I really want to see him stand trial in all of his outstanding cases. I believe our justice system needs to be proven to work in this difficult situation. We need the facts to come out, and a significant minority in the country needs to see these facts and deal with them.

Someone used to say the day of political violence being NORMALIZED in your country needs to arrive.'
I am so encouraged by the OP
Now we need a decade and then this stuff happens between state senators and their staffs. At the ballot box. Daily normalized mayhem and killings.
And when you say "fact of life"
At that point - I am satisfied with politics.
But this - is an excellent first step.
PAGING PUTIN AND OTHERS: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T HURT OUR LEADERS ON EITEHR SIDE. IT'LL ONLY HELP DIVIDE AMERICA AND CREATE CHAOS.....AND YOU DONT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
AND PLEASE FON'T TARGET MID-LEVEL GOVERNMENT WORKERS. THEY HAVE NO GUARDS, NO SECURITY, THEY DO THE NITTY GRITTY AND THE GRUNT WORK THAT THE BUREACRACY NEEDS...... IF YOU TARGET THEM, IT WOULD BE SO EASY AND THEN OUR COUNTRY WOULD HAVE A REAL PROBLEM WITH VITAL GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONS. SO PLEASE, DIPLOMACY INSTEAD.
I guess Internet cafes might be in my future.

Excellent point. I don't think he would have the fortitude to take his own life. So, as long as he loses in November, he'll be standing trail for several more offenses. Of course, he is old. So he may expire before all the appeals are exhausted.

Yup, you did.
Notice how in the OP he's trying to be clever by referencing Vance, but is in fact taking the left wing lie, making it gospel, and then applying to this?
They hear what they want to hear and apply it to the news.

Notice how in the OP he's trying to be clever by referencing Vance,
It's called comedy, son. Satire. Pointing out the stupidity of Vance's statement by applying it to a different, but very similar, situation.
Let me spell it out for you, since you don't seem to grasp subtlety or inferences very well.
When rogue gunmen shoot at schools, we offer our thoughts and prayers. We suggest they implement more security, but don't offer any additional funding for that security. We wring our hands that something should be done, but don't actually do anything at all.
When rogue gunmen shoot at prominent political figures, we demand retribution. We blame the large security apparatus surrounding said prominent political figure (security that he doesn't pay for, but the public does pay significant amounts for) and demand that it be increased even further immediately, no matter the cost. We blame the opposing political party.
But, of course, in no case should we ever even have a hint of a thought of any additional controls on guns.
This situation is absolutely asinine.
