iirc, it was about August of 2019, that Trump was urging USian companies to get their supply chains out of China. I was OK with that, because China uses the money we give them for their trinkets, to challenge USian hegemony.

Cancel that out. Now we have a special trading relationship with China, because MONEY.

China says preliminary agreement reached with US to lower some tariffs

In a statement posted on its website Saturday, the commerce ministry in Beijing said the two sides had agreed to establish a trade council and an investment council. The trade council will seek to negotiate reciprocal tariff reductions on specific products, as well as broader cuts on unspecified goods including agricultural products, it said.

A few weeks ago, the CEO of Ford Motor said that, while he intends to final assemble cars in the US, he wants to import the components for those cars from the cheapest corners of the world, without any tariffs. Appears, God and Savior Trump has cashed the check from Ford.

Ford CEO says the automaker is so dependent on imports it ‘can’t even buy’ certain car parts in the U.S.

Jim Farley, appearing on CNN, said Ford will be affected when tariffs go into effect this Saturday on auto parts, which could raise consumer prices. And while the White House is encouraging companies to buy domestically made parts, that’s just not possible some of the time.

“We have to import certain parts,” Farley said. “A lot of parts, like fasteners, washers, carpet … are just not available. We can’t even buy those parts here.”

And even when some parts might be availably from U.S. suppliers, the CEO said, it makes more economic sense to buy imports as doing otherwise would drive retail prices notably higher. Between 20% and 25% of the parts made to make the best-selling F-150, for instance, are imported, Farley said.

Interesting how Farly contradicts himself, in consecutive paragraphs: impossible to source parts here, well, we can source parts here, but imported parts are cheaper. What a tap-dancing buffoon.
