The people who were the closest to the orange rapist speak plainly to the issues in Atheist Shrewds recent threads.

" The attacks on the Capitol were an assault on our democracy and on the tradition of peaceful transitions of power that the United States of America first brought to the world.”
- Alex Azar, Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services

Sept. 29, 2023
"We don’t take an oath to a country. We don’t take an oath to a tribe. We don’t take an oath to a religion. We don’t take an oath to a king or a queen, or to a tyrant or a dictator. And we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator.” - Mark Milley, Trump's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Jan. 7, 2021
President Trump and other officials have repeatedly compromised our principles in pursuit of partisan advantage and personal gain.” - White House national security adviser

Oct. 1, 2023
I have a lot of concerns about Donald Trump. I have said that he’s a threat to democracy. I think the last year, certainly the last few months of Donald Trump’s presidency, will look like the first few months of the next one if that were to occur.”- Mark Esper Secretary of Defense

"A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution and the rule of law. " - John Kelly, White House chief of staff, retired four-star Marine Corps general

Sadly, all this reality does not penetrate the cult. I think a very large part of the blame lies with the right wing media. There is just no way that so many Americans would be so deluded without the cynical propagandizing of media outlets like FOX and worse.

I have often heard people on the right say that FOX 'news' is the ONLY place to hear the truth. Gad.

I don't know about "other people", but I have said that very thing on this very board.

Your inability to recognize sarcasm, substantiates the thesis that many liberals lack a finely developed sense of humor. I really don't believe that. I think they usually get the humor but choose to take a remark literally in order to advance an argument.

Did you really think the other day when I posted about what I think are genuine threats to our democracy, when I listed as #4 "climate changed killing us all" that I meant it literally?

Given my posting history, do you really think that is something I worry about?

Sarcasm was Limbaughs specialty. He knew that his audience would internalize the lie-based sarcasm and eventually repeat it as fact.

You could listen to Limbaugh's show in the morning and read his dittoheads regurgitating his schpiel nearly verbatim on TMF that afternoon.... but they repeated it as if his false premises were facts.

It wasn't funny then and it's not funny now because at the bottom of that so-called humor is a bed of lies.

When Trump does it now, his cult says 'It's just his style.' But they internalize his mean, racist, bullying humor. It manifests in their writing and civic mis-behaviour, and in the extreme, right wing terrorism.

No, BHM, it's not funny.
