While I've mentioned I'm not fond of annuities and only have checked them out on websites like immediateannuities the one area I could see them being of value is if I pass away first.

Like many here, often one partner is into finance and the other has zero interest. My wife is someone who would be much better off with having income come in per month and spending that.

If she has access to all of the money I'm not sure she would limit herself to something like a 4% withdrawal rate.

As it is she would need someone to help with doing the estimated quarterly taxes and once someone does that for you, they will often want to manage your money which is often a bad idea.
