The most October job cuts in over 20 years, more than 153,000 gone, according to Challenger, Gray and Christmas. That’s more than 1.1 million jobs lost so far in 2025, with more to come, on pace with the Great Financial Crisis of 2008 and 2009.
Donald Trump is taking decisive action, even though he continues to insist that none of this is his fault. According to Heather Cox Richardson:
“Throughout the day, Trump continued to flood social media with more than 30 social media posts and choppy videos in which, standing in a dark room behind a podium and slurring his speech, he appeared to read from his social media posts, touting his accomplishments, railing against former president Barack Obama, threatening Nigeria with war, and pleading with Republican senators to end the filibuster.”

Yes, the US is going through the largest number of layoffs since...the last time Trump was President.
Every single Republican president in my lifetime has crashed the economy.
Trump will be the first one to do it twice!
Or as Fox News would say, "Prosperity!"

The major factors in the recent job cuts are 1) A.I. and automation; 2) cost-cutting by businesses; 3) post-pandemic adjustments by companies; 4) interest rates too high.
The only one of those that Trump has some indirect influence on is the interest rates, he has certainly been lobbying heavily for cuts to the interest rates, but the Fed actually has to make those decisions.

Well then if you feel the tariffs are causing the problems, you need to tell King Schumer to reopen the government, and then propose legislation to correct the bad tariffs.

LOL! Trumps idiotic tariff policy is now Schumer's fault?
Remember when the GOP was the party of personal responsibility?

How many people did DOGE fire?
Exactly! But not only that. How many excellent federal employees left the federal service voluntarily, in fear that they might soon be DOGE'd for no good cause. That's the route I thought it prudent to take this past April.
But admittedly, it was my choice to retire at that time rather than seek other employment, even though I had planned to continue working for another 2 years to feel conservatively financially comfortable. So my name would not currently be included among the lists of the unemployed.

Unnecessary. There already is legislation on the books that makes Trump's tariffs illegal, as the conservative-led Supreme Court is likely to soon rule. Can we help it if Trump repeatedly chooses to break the law?
We wonder very much why you seem to be in support of ignoring the laws already on the books. Does it make sense for Trump to flout the law? Are new laws necessary when old ones should work just fine? Maybe you need to tell Mike Johnson to reopen the government, and then propose legislation to correct the bad tariffs.

What is a bad tariff? And who decides? Congress can't possibly keep up with the pace of necessary legislation to back up the President, any president, as he negotiates trade deals with foreign governments.
Threatening tariffs, implementing tariffs, horse trading dead lines and percentages is part of the daily grind of foreign relations. Tariffs are an effective tool to have in the toolbox as we try to influence foreign behavior.

Exactly. From the files of “facts left wingers in this board don’t want to acknowledge” Joe Biden kept *all* of Trump45’s tariffs on China in place. Didn’t see anybody whining about that.
