The MTG thing is about her Senate run. Georgia has *2* democrat Senators, neither particularly noteworthy, and both are vulnerable for GOP pickups.

MTG wants one of those seats.
Trump wants a reasonable ally in the Senate and not another Rand Paul or equivalent grandstander.

There's nothing more beyond it than that. MTG's lane is the rabble-rousing attack dog. She's trying to learn the art of rebranding when you want the next higher level job but she's out over her skis a bit.
