Interviewer: "Do you support the deportation of immigrants who commit violet felonies while in our country illegally?"

Blue State Politician: "No I do not, and I say again, we will not help in their deportation. My policy is that the criminals should be allowed to stay too."

The reason that people don't ask the question the way you suggest is because it's a super-easy answer for the Blue State politician. Sanctuary policies generally don't prohibit deportation of immigrants who are here unlawfully that are convicted of committing violent felonies while in the country illegally.
