I stumbled across an old Indy 500 racing ticket. Apparently, it was from when 1poormom was dating 1poordad. Mom wrote a little note on the ticket for the occasion, and the ticket is from 2 years before they were married. The ticket was used, but still has the "raincheck" stub attached (apparently it didn't rain on May 30, 1951).

Does anyone have knowledge about collectibles? I couldn't find any on ebay, and a general search turned up one site that wouldn't tell me how much it might be worth. If it's only a dollar or two, I'll likely just toss it. If it's $100, it would be worth pursuing. Since it was used (i.e. the primary admission stub is missing), and mom scribbled her note, I can't imagine it's worth any more than that. Probably not even that. But I'm not a collector.

Replying to myself...

I signed-up for the website that had tickets like this. Free trial, canceled after I got my info. The ticket they had was minus both the admission stub and the raincheck stub. $17.

Mine has the raincheck stub, but has mom's note on the back.

Doesn't hurt to list it on ebay. Probably only of interest to some serious Indy racing buffs.

1pooroldpeople were both Hoosiers, attending Shortridge High (no longer exists). Even when I was in college, 1poormom would have the race on the TV in late May. Every year.

I’d guess “worthless”, but what do I know? If if was from a race famous for a spectacular finish (or crash), and if it was the full ticket, and if it was in pristine condition, and…

Otherwise, just some human memorabilia from a few years past. If you came up with one from an ancient chariot race in Rome, say CE 120, you might have something. ;)

Turns out there is demand. I probably underpriced it because of the note on the back written by 1poormom. I listed it for $20, and it went in less than a day. Initially, I was seeing an average of $17. But 1poorkid did some searching (she's into collectibles), and was finding prices as high as $100 (for tickets that didn't have writing on them). Unused tickets (with both the admission stub and raincheck stub attached) were over $200.

Probably should have asked for more. But I got almost $20 (after paying for tracking) for something I otherwise would have tossed. And someone else apparently will enjoy it. So it's all good.
