Who couldn’t see this coming? The same deluded slobs who’ve fallen for all the previous grifts, that’s who.

Step 1: flood the economy with chaos. Markets hate chaos. Step 2. Opine that a “period of adjustment” may preclude the dawning of the new Golden Age. Step 3. Buy up all the cheap assets getting tossed out the windows by the over-leveraged suckers.

Hey, the rubes can always get some chickens and raise vegetables in their Trump Gardens.

Next up: gutting the Big Three social programs the rubes depend on in order to fund ever more tax cuts for the 1 percent.

As my former father-in-law used to remind me, never forget that half the population has an IQ below 100.

Agreed. This pretty much has to happen if they aren't going to raise taxes. The Big Three (as you say) comprise something like 60% of the budget (if memory serves). You can't reduce the deficit in any meaningful way without either raising taxes, or cutting the Big Three. Or, I guess, they could increase the deficit and debt, and call it a day.

Meanwhile, no one is looking at the low-hanging fruit. Kill the fossil fuel subsidies. The petro companies are recording record (or near-record) profits, and the American taxpayer is pumping billions at them ($662B in 2020, including implicit subsidies). The Senate budget office reports around $20B direct subsidies. We could lop that off right now, and save more than DOGE has with all their cuts.

And then there's pharma. We subsidize their med research (which is fine...basic research is expensive), and then they don't cut us a deal for the drugs that result?? I don't think so. How many more billions could we save if we stopped that? If you want us to fund your research, you're going to give us a serious discount on any meds that result.

And that's just two off the top of my head.

This is the "short and distort" scam, the opposite of the "pump and dump."

Stock manipulators use both.

I'm apprehensive that this will be extremely painful for a lot of folks, including me. My sister looks like she's going to pass, but if she lives she'll be dependent on medicare, and if that goes - well... And I don't want my social security disrupted, or lowered, etc. For some people that's their only money. I shudder at that thought.

I wonder, if they make noises about SS and Medicare, but don't touch them, was it a ruse so cutting only Medicaid brings a sigh of relief?

Insightful post, but is this part really true? I did not think that IQ was a median when they came up with it. I thought it was the average. So a super intelligent or a super dumb person could throw off the curve.
