Although details are still sketchy -- hey, it's Trumpedo, after all -- but the cost of changing the name from the Department of Defense to the Department of War could run into the tens, even hundreds of millions of dollars.
Officials may need to change Defense Department seals on more than
700,000 facilities in 40 countries and all 50 states. This includes everything from letterhead for six military branches and dozens more agencies down to embossed napkins in chow halls, embroidered jackets for Senate-confirmed officials and the keychains and tchotchkes in the Pentagon store.
S'kay though. It's not like that money might be better spent on housing for unhoused Vets or better pay so 35,000 active duty members wouldn't have to rely on SNAP benefits to eat.
I dunno, maybe Trumpedo should just release the Epstein Files and stop the nonsense.

Where is DOGE when we need it?
Oh. I'm sorry. I forgot. DOGE was just a bunch of bullspit from the very beginning - a cover to cancel "woke" things and punish people who didn't toe the MAGA line.
GOP concerned about the Federal budget? Just more lies to feed to the stupid among us.

HCR put the figure at billions per Politico! (though I can't believe that at all)
HCR: As Amanda Castro and Hannah Parry of Newsweek note, in August, Trump said he wanted the change because “Defense is too defensive...we want to be offensive too if we have to be.” By law, Congress must approve the change, which Politico estimates will cost billions of dollars, although Trump said: “I'm sure Congress will go along if we need that. I don't think we even need that.” By this evening, nameplates and signage bearing the new name had gone up in government offices and the URL for the Defense Department website had been changed to war [dot] gov.
And the question for the next sane president and congress is whether to spend a similar amount to change the name back to Department of Defense.

First point, "JCs", like Trump, waste enormous sums on "branding" changes all the time. What did it cost Peugeot to rename itself "Stellantis"? I have seen VW make a change in the font used in it's "Das Auto" slogan, a change so minor that it was only noticeable when the old and new were shown together. "JCs" waste money on the stupidest stuff, then cry they aren't making as much profit as they want, so cut production staff to make up the shortfall.
Trump said he wanted the change because “Defense is too defensive...we want to be offensive too if we have to be.”
The bunch that has killed tens of thousands of Palistinians, and leveled large parts of Gaza, is the Israeli Defense Force.

Maybe they can "change" the name to Department of War and just NOT change all the many places and things named DOD. It's all just for show anyway. And then, the next sane POTUS can just undo DOW.
