The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I think you're wildly underestimating the percentage of families who already can't afford a Disney theme park.

Not too long ago, I read of a mom who had been saving, for years, to have enough money for the family to visit Disney World. She thought she finally had enough, until she started making reservations. Then she discovered that, if they didn't pay even more, for some sort of "express" pass, they would never see anything, because they would spend all day in line, while the people who paid the upcharge, got in. The news recently reported that park admission, at peak times, is over $200/person. Some years ago, I held DIS, but really cringed at the company's unspeakable greed. Had that discussion with people on the old Fool DIS board, several times. Seems the company figures it's pricing power is infinite, because little kids don't understand money, and parents will do anything to accommodate their spawn.

Everyone wants to take more money off each Prole. If big oil is taking more, there is less for greedy sumbees, like the "professional managers" at DIS, or restaurants, or hotels.....
