Back in the olden days, when people did things in order and life made sense, contestants on Jeopardy! ordered up the clues in ascending order of monetary value so as to receive the easier clues first and get a feel for each subject category.

Since the world went off the rails, contestants demand clues in random order of monetary value, sometimes seemingly searching for the elusive daily doubles, often simply seeking maximum remuneration as quickly as possible.

Anyway . . .

On the fresh episode that aired in my market on Sept. 24, there was a category titled "I'm looking for a man in finance."

This is Jeopardy's way of letting contestants know it is looking for the names of specific male financiers, offered, as always, in the form of a question.

These were the answers, in the random order of monetary value in which the contestants requested them:

$600: A poster boy for the Gilded Age, this mega-rich guy founded the company that controlled most of Cleveland’s refineries by 1872.

$1,000: He founded his publicly-owned investment firm in Baltimore in 1937; perhaps you’ve seen its bighorn sheep logo?

$800: Oil and mining tycoon and multi-billionaire Mohammed Al-Amoudi was born in the Amhara region of this African country.

$400: In the 19-teens, he established a partnership with Edmund C. Lynch.

$200: His annual letter to the shareholders at Berkshire Hathaway is "the investment world’s equivalent of a Harry Potter book release."

The program offered no attribution for the quotation in the $200 clue. Perplexity.ai unearthed the phrase in this summary of the 2023 letter published in something called Worth Magazine:
