Here Comes Trump's Privatization of the Social Security Administration

What Happened: A leaked email from SSA Commissioner Leland Dudek outlines plans to outsource "nonessential functions" and cut 7,000 jobs, close 45 field offices, and consolidate operations. Former Commissioner Martin O’Malley warns these changes could collapse the agency and disrupt benefits.

Why It Matters: Trump and Elon Musk are gutting the SSA under the guise of efficiency, but experts say it’s a backdoor plan to privatize Social Security, risking delayed payments for millions of seniors.

...risking delayed payments for millions of seniors.

Good.

A large percentage of that demographic voted for the Felon, let them suffer with that choice.

We were in the vicinity of Sun Lakes, and there is a grocery store near there (major name omitted). It has some different products from the same name store near our house, so we popped-in. There was an old guy with a scooter, and a Trump hat "save America". A second patron had a hat that may have been left over from 2016. And at least one Trump t-shirt. Looked like regular folks (I'm sure they were). Nothing radical.

They need to feel the pain to understand. I wish it weren't so, but it is. So I find myself having to say "good, I hope it hurts". Which really isn't my nature, normally.

I certainly understand the feeling- even share it to a large degree, even though SOCIAL Security payments comprise about a third of our combined income. It would mean real sacrifice, but we’ll survive if it happens.

Kids might not have as much inheritance, but one of them voted for Trump, so that just gave me an idea about how I should probably change my will.

Ok….. one of my kids will end up with about the same if SS is cut. The other- not so much.

File that idea under “You broke it, you own it”.

I'm hoping SS exists, I'd be collecting it early - which if I've not croaked means I'd collect perhaps in 14 years or so.

My "plan" factors in getting Social Security BUT at a 20% benefit cut whether that is dollars, age bump, whatever.

If it's cut more than 20%, it'll mean some sacrifices.

If it's cut less than 20%, ok that's more to play with.

I've also always planned that whatever Medicare out of pocket expenses are, just arbitrarily add $5k per person per year due to reduced benefits one day.

If there weren't kids in the picture I'd settle abroad. Last summer I traveled abroad. and Wifey's asthma was acting up. We text the asthma specialist. They go to see him. 2 hours later they are back with a new prescription regimen and the next day they invited him to lunch at the hotel buffet.

Total cost to me: $95.00 plus the lunch.

No insurance shit. No rude stressed tattoo'd up baby mommy at the front desk. No ragged insurance administrator yelling at some customer on the phone.

If not for kids, yeah, for me there are places out there have cheaper and yummier food, happier people thanks to culture and family, and less bullets and easier health care. For *major* stuff I'd still want it done in the USA though. Nowhere better -- there's a reason the world's well to do still come here for health stuff.
