Coca-Cola was rather quiet after Mad King Donald the Pedophile tried to shift public attention off of the Jeffrey Epstein files by announcing that the soda-maker would switch from corn syrup to can sugar.

Coca-Cola eventually issued a statement of sorts, simply responding: "All Coca-Cola brand products are wholesome beverages manufactured in compliance with the federal law."
They then went on to say: "The name sounds complex, but high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) —which we use to sweeten some of our beverages—is actually just a sweetener made from corn. It's safe; it has about the same number of calories per serving as table sugar and is metabolized in a similar way by your body.

"The American Medical Association has confirmed that HFCS is no more likely to contribute to obesity than table sugar or other full-calorie sweeteners. Please be assured that Coca-Cola brand soft drinks do not contain any harmful substances.

"All Coca-Cola brand products are wholesome beverages manufactured in compliance with the federal law governing food safety and labeling, the laws of all the states, and the laws of over 200 countries throughout the world where they are sold."

Not exactly a confirmation of Mad King Donald's claim but the media took the bait because the media are morons.

But either way, Donald Trump is still a pedophile.

Right on, say it loud, say it proud!

Saying it does not make it so, though.

(But his actions do, of course.)

I wonder how those corn belt farmers who were Trump voters feel about their votes now.

MAGA feels great about their gop votes.
pbs interviewed idaho farmer getting crippled by raids hurting his economics and removing undocumented 'friends' that were former schoolmates. no mention of savage brutality in other ICE raids.
idaho is deep red, and farming communities voted ~75% gop.

farmer remains unrepentant trump supporter that believed in the crop\hotel deportation 'pause', and wished dems could meet in the middle to address immigration.

(now seriously consider if anything regarding epstein can fix this kind of stupid)

And, from what I've read, Coke's statement is not true. HFCS metabolizes differently in our bodies. It's a form of sugar, but not table sugar (sucrose), and apparently shocks the pancreas. Messing with your pancreas can lead to diabetes. I'm not a medical person, so I have no idea how that works. It's just what I read. Actual sugar (sucrose) isn't a health food, but it's easier for your body to metabolize.

The only reason they use HFCS is a combination of two subsidies: one on sugar (making it more expensive in the US through some sort of price guarantee to farmers), and one on corn (making it less expensive in the US). If you travel overseas where those don't exist, you'll find most (all?) soda brands use real sugar (sucrose). You can get real sugar drinks here, but they are either a "craft" or specialty drink/soda, or they are imported (usually from Mexico).

"Mexi-Coke" is pretty common in stores in the Phoenix area, and Costco also carries cases of it.

HFCS is 55% fructose and 45% glucose, while sucrose is 50% fructose and 50% glucose.

The literature suggests that HFCS is associated with a higher level of CRP compared to sucrose, and that little differences exist in other anthropometric and metabolic parameters.

Best to avoid soft drinks altogether or have them once in a blue moon (just read an article that disclosed soft drink and other beverage cans are lined with a polymer coating that release loads of microplastics). Unfortunately, bottles do too.

Sorry.

My main, daily beverage is ice tea that I make, using green tea, and I add Aleve for sweetener.
It is imo much better than the stuff I buy. I do drink Coke after hard workouts. I need it over ice. But I'm moving away from it, have read enough bad stuff about it to know better than
to drink it regularly. Have had 2 twelve ounce cans this week, the other times I packed my ice tea in a thermos and it hit the spot.

Aleve? Did you mean allulose or stevia?

LoL, I meant Agave. got it from Costco, it's liquid, in a squeeze bottle.
( Labeled as Blue Agave ).

Have no idea where I came up with Aleve from, lol.

Much better as a sweetener than Aleve! Consumerlab.com has this to say about agave:

Lower glycemic index than sugar
About 80% sweeter than sugar
More calories per spoonful than sugar due to density of syrup
Contains high amount of fructose, which may be linked with health concerns

The name sounds complex, but high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) —which we use to sweeten some of our beverages—is actually just a sweetener made from corn. It's safe; it has about the same number of calories per serving as table sugar and is metabolized in a similar way by your body.

It does have a slightly different flavor profile, and when Coca Cola decided to make the change (the first, supposedly, since the beginning of it’s “secret” recipe), they took 5 years to do it. Not to figure it out, to actually implement it: they started with 10% HFCS and 90% sugar, and 6 months later went to 20%/80%, and so on until sugar was eliminated entirely. Happened between 1979 and 1984.

The reason, of course, was cost; cane sugar was (uh oh) tariffed, and Midwest farmers produce lots of corn, so “politics” at both end of the legislative sausage.

The profile is different enough that “Mexican Coke” is made with sugar (because no tariffs there) and is sold separately in most grocery stores. Look near the Hispanic food section. I can tell the difference, but it’s not important enough for me to pay the higher price (harder distribution) and search it out. Some people do.

But either way, Donald Trump is still a pedofile

Oh that’s for sure. And that’s been going on far longer than 5 years.

No need to be sorry. I'm always open to new info, as long as it's valid (i.e. not some Xhitter link to Bob's Blog). Your study is more recent than the one I read (since I read it, and have abstained from HFCS, several years before the Pandemic).

Didn't know about the microplastics in cans. I was more concerned about Al diffusing in the soda (which has some links to ALZ). I did read that microplastics from the paint on the cap of the bottles was a likely source of microplastics. Just read that a week or two ago.

I don't drink alcohol (just don't like the taste). I've limited myself to at most one soda per day, without HFCS (which limits what I can buy since most of it has HFCS). I would guess I actually do about 2-3 a week. 1poorlady got me some Poppi because it is a prebiotic. Some of them are actually pretty good. But you are correct, they generally aren't good for you. I have my trusty vacuum bottle of water near me all the time, and that's mostly what I drink.
