If it is anything like 2016 Trump won't cooperate in the transition. In 2016 the preceding administration had all kinds of briefing books and other helpful information and were set to meet with their incoming counterparts, as normally happens in a transition. Trump wouldn't have it.

"Harris even promised to help with the transition. What is this world coming to?"
I think Michael Lewis wrote a book on the 2016 transition from Obama to Trump.
Obama had all of his key transition teams contact the incoming Trump people, to arrange
meetings. The response was rather lukewarm. When meetings were set, Trump people either
did not even bother showing up, or sat quiet and did not even pay attention or ask questions
in the meetings.
I wonder if they will show any humility this time, and bother to show up and participate.
I have my doubts. Most of the MAGA people I know are the most obnoxious and arrogant people that
I come across. Seems to be a common trait.
https://www.amazon.com/Fifth-Risk-Michael-Lewis/dp..."The election happened," remembers Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, then deputy secretary of the Department of Energy. "And then there was radio silence." Across all departments, similar stories were playing out: Trump appointees were few and far between; those that did show up were shockingly uninformed about the functions of their new workplace. Some even threw away the briefing books that had been prepared for them."

Sandals and shorts for me till mid October in Michigan (and will break them out in November on a warm day…. Like yesterday). Winter is jeans, sneakers (Merrill and Kuru) or boots, layered shirts-loads of Carrhart.
I haven’t worn a suit since my wedding over two years ago. Once or twice a month I’ll put on nice slacks and an oxford button down. For real special occasions I’ll add a tie.

But circling back to the topic, once I find a good Democratic riot protesting the election to attend, do you recommend my usual sneakers, or should I wear the good pair? Don't blame you, when I left the USA they were ~$100. I went through culture shock coming to the the USA, everything was so expensive. During the pandemic the gov gave me half a sack of rice, which we gave to the poor neighbors outside the compound. People watched me walk back and forth on the driveway every day for a half hour every day because we were under orders to stay home. You have to walk early or late in Florida, too hot most of the day.
I wear suspenders now all the time. Don't like belts anymore. I exercise for my metal health too. But there's nothing like a good riot to work you out and get the mind cleared. I think I still have stomping fascists in muscle memory. Pickle ball is a good exercise to keep up your riot skills.

It won’t be the deportation of violent criminals that will lead to protests.
Revoking the citizenship of naturalized Americans and deporting them, or deporting working adults who were brought here as children might do the trick, though.

Well…. If there are protests, it might not be local police facing off with the protestors.
If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act the that he’s says he’s been promising to do on “Day One”, we might be talking about the 82nd or 101st Airborne. And there won’t be a Milley or a Kelley in the White House talking him down from his hairbrained notion that shooting protestors is a great idea.
And then a protestor advances too close to the line, is killed, and becomes a much more credible martyr than Ashlee Babbitt ever was.
I’m not sure Donald can think that far ahead, so that scenario is possible.

I didn’t say it would happen, but it’s a scenario that could very well happen, given:
1. Statements by members of Trump’s inner circle who wish to deport anyone who is not a citizen.
2. Trump’s promise on “Day 1” to invoke the Insurrection Act . He might not do it on Day 1, but at the first whiff of protests, I’m betting he will. Hence, the 82nd or 101st. If I’m not mistaken, a battalion of airborne is actually stationed at Ft. Belvoir, just outside of DC.
3. Trump was already on record, at least with a couple of witnesses (including Kelley or Milley- or both, asking the military to shoot protestors outside the WhiteHouse. When told that the military doesn’t shoot protestors, he responded “Can’t you just shoot them in the legs?”
Trump will be surrounded during his coming term by men whose loyalty is to him, and not the Constitution. It’s more doubtful now that he will have anyone remotely similar to either Milley or Kelley to stifle his impulses.
Such a scenario as I outlined is not at all improbable

WSJ, Foreign Affairs, The Economist, The Bulwark on Substack (a bunch of Never Trumpers)
Anymore, a lot of what I’ve been reading is on the subject of authoritarianism- Ruth ben-Ghiat and Anne Applebaum. The subject interested me years ago after I read Hannah Arendt. They provide a grat prism through which to view the trajectory of Donald Trump.
Very little anymore from CNN, MSNBC, WaPo or NYTimes

With Trump one needs to be able to separate the policy from the hyperbole, and I find that the US media is completely incapable of doing that.
-There will be mass deportations of illegal alien criminals. As there should be.
-There will be reorganizations of the government in ways that ideally promote more efficiency and cost savings
-There will be an emphasis on law enforcement at the border
-There will be a speedup in handling asylum claims, with those rejected by immigration judges deported immediately
That's off the top of my head. What else are you thinking about?

I don't want them to stop. I want them to keep shouting it from the rooftops.
They're not listening anymore. Not to me, not to you, not to the voters, not to sane democrats (both of them) and not even to their news media who are right now looking at the pile of smoking wreckage they've made of a Presidential campaign.
The problem our lefty friends have is...they really do believe this stuff. And that means they're almost all the way 'round the bend. So I say let them keep shouting in loud enough that they look silly when none of it materializes.
To the extent they think they can claim LOOK HITLER! OVER THERE! it'll be on behalf of a *real* scumbag who before he was deported victimized several innocent Americans...let them go on record as yelling and screaming on somebody like that.

I am especially amused when Trump announces each appointment, the left reflexively screams, "See, See, evil Trump is packing his administration with loyalists".
Well, duh, that is exactly what Trump or any president should do. The left thinks Trump should pick liberals who then will covertly work to undermine his administration, and that is how democracy is honored and preserved?
They cannot admit to themselves that the majority of citizens voted to have Trumps policies implemented.

It is really too numerous to mention, but lets just take your #1 with immigration.
Today, we deport around 1M a year. Trump has said 1M to 11M. If you stick with just criminals you will be very close to that 1M number so no real change from what has been happening today.
Trump has said he would like to stop birthright citizenship. Is that hyperbole?
Trump has said he would do mass deportations (different than just criminals, no?) Is this hyperbole?
Trump has said he would deport the "dreamers" or immigrants who came here as children and have lived productive lives in the US for decades. Will you support him in deporting these people, or is this hyperbole?

Trump has said he would like to stop birthright citizenship. Is that hyperbole?Yes, because you'd need to change the 14th Amendment.
Trump has said he would do mass deportations (different than just criminals, no?) Is this hyperbole? No, and I covered this one. They're going to deport folks who flunk their amnesty hearings. There might even be workplace sweeps. For some reason Biden pretty much stopped doing any workplace enforcement the last 4 years.
Trump has said he would deport the "dreamers" or immigrants who came here as children and have lived productive lives in the US for decades. Will you support him in deporting these people, or is this hyperbole?Hyperbole. Why can I say this? Because of this:
https://www.pon.harvard.edu/daily/dealmaking-daily...Democratic senator Diane Feinstein then made a bold proposal to Trump: “What about a clean DACA bill now, with a commitment that we go into a comprehensive immigration reform procedure?” She was asking for a bill on a single, Democratic-favored issue—protections for Dreamers—with no other issues on which Republicans could negotiate concessions, such as border security.
“I have no problem [with that],” Trump responded. “We’re going to do DACA, and then we can start immediately on the Phase 2, which would be comprehensive [reform].”
“Would you be agreeable to that?” Feinstein said.
“Yeah, I would like to do that,” Trump said.Trump will allow the Dreamers to stay if he gets something else he wants. That's what negotiating looks like.

No, that's what a dictatorial authoritarian does.
If that becomes the dominant belief in the USA we are well and truly fucked.
A panel of retired loyalists who purge the military command of non-loyalists?
A military turned on its own people to do the bidding of a sociopathic liar/felon/rapist?
A handful of billionaires like Musk dictating efficiency that coincidentally benefits their personal ambitions?

Screw hyperbole.

So originally why did you not call it what it is?
(1) He will continue with the same policies in place under the Biden administration
(2) He will start deporting productive immigrants reducing our already tight labor supply
BECAUSE,
The standard trump method is to create the impression of a fire, then take credit for putting it out. You can't say this, because it is admitting Trump really just duped his followers. I suspect his followers have as difficult a time detecting his hyperbole as the opposition:-) Otherwise, why would he do it?
There is a real problem at the border, but it is not what Trump has said. Worldwide there is mass migration from the southern part of the globe to the northern part. This is the problem that needs to be solved. You can try to hold back the tide, but as we have seen in the past it only results in inhumane treatment.

Because he will not be continuing Biden’s border policies. For one there won’t be mass abuse of the spirit of amnesty laws. For two there will be no attempts to ‘parole in place’ millions of illegals. For three there will be no dumping of migrants into random towns that aren’t prepared for them.
Trump and Biden are night and day on immigration; I’m not sure why this is controversial.

Being human beings no different than the genpop, yes.
I'm not sure how it could happen. Per posse comitatus, the US military is not allowed to operate on US soil. But, yes, the military is trained to obey orders. They also are supposed to disobey illegal orders, but there are very few albabys in uniform. I suppose it is conceivable he could so corrupt the chain of command, that no one would oppose him if he issued that order. From the sounds of it, that is what he intends to do (i.e. fill every conceivable position in government with lackeys and sycophants).
It would be great if he got some KFC stuck in his throat before he can do that. Or maybe a stroke. I'm not picky. His cabinet certainly won't 25th Amendment him, even if his dementia progresses to where my mom's was (which is quite possible in 4 years...mom's decline accelerated significantly during those last few years).

That's because people are generally ignorant about history. Sure, they know about the extermination camps. That's probably all most people know. But that's not what we're referring to. The convict uses the same playbook, and the same rhetoric, that Hitler used to ascend to power. And, having attained power, it appears he's looking to purge government from anyone who doesn't support him, just like Hitler did.
Auschwitz and Buchenwald, etc, happened well after he had achieved and consolidated power. That's not what anyone is referring to.

Actually, it's "all y'all" when referring to multiple persons. Yes, I have known a few people who talk like that, and one corrected me on the use of "y'all". "Y'all" is singular, referring to one person. Kinda counterintuitive, given the word has "all" in it; which usually refers to a grouping.

Hopefully, by 2026 the slim margin that gave Trump the electoral college will recognize how badly they fucked up.... just as Brazil did after electing Trump's pal-in-hiding at Mar a Lago, strongman Jair Bolsonaro.
Hopefully, by 2026, Trump's ownership of SCOTUS, and being enthralled to have the companionship of the world's richest man, won't scotch a return to government by the people, FOR the people.
Jair Messias Bolsonaro ..retired military officer who served as the 38th President of Brazil from 2019 to 2023. He previously served as member of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies from 1991 to 2018.
... He rolled back protections for Indigenous groups in the Amazon rainforest and facilitated its deforestation.
.....a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, abortion, affirmative action, drug liberalization, and secularism.
....he sought to downplay the pandemic and its effects, opposed quarantine measures, and dismissed two health ministers, while the death toll increased rapidly
...attempted to undermine the validity of the election through his unfounded claims of voter fraud, and for abusing his power by using government communication channels to both promote his campaign and to allege fraud.
.... Testimonies from military officials showed that Bolsonaro had allegedly planned a self-coup with the military to keep himself in power.
....On 8 January 2023, his supporters stormed federal government buildings, calling for a coup.
... he threatened to arrest, purge or kill "reds" and "petralhas" (a derogatory term for Workers' Party members), and promised that members of the social movements MST and MTST would be treated as "terrorists". He said: "This time, the clean-up will be even greater. This group ["reds"], if they want to stay, will have to abide by our laws ... These red outlaws will be banned from our homeland. Either they go overseas, or they go to jail ... Petralhada, you all go to the edge of the beach. It will be a cleaning never seen in the history of Brazil".

Telling the truth is never wrong. It doesn’t matter if those getting uncomfortably close to being Nazis don’t like it and want it to stop.
The truth is that many of Trump’s policies align with the American Nazi Party goals.
The ANP wants to see only whites as citizens and able to vote. The GOP has promoted voting restrictions that would make it harder for non-whites to vote.
The ANP wants to make much of America for whites only. Trump wants to deport immigrants from Central and South America.
The ANP believes in isolationist principles for our military, getting out of all foreign countries. Trump is a pacifist and isolationist.
I’ll freely admit that there are also places where the ANP and Trump do not agree. There are probably card carrying Nazis who don’t agree with everything in the ANP’s positions. That doesn’t make it wrong to point out the many similarities between Trump and Nazis.
So it’s doesn’t matter if “no one” is buying it. It’s still true and worth pointing out on a regular basis.
