My guess is he is planning to violate federal law, and land himself in federal prison.

The first misconception, that has been cleared-up (at least on this board) for a couple of months now, is that the vast majority are not "illegals". They are asylum-seekers, which is completely legal. Once they reach US soil, they have a right to request asylum. Period. If Abbott interferes with that, he is (probably) breaking the law as it is currently written. And this has been the law for decades, so you cannot blame Biden or Trump or Obama or even Bush Jr. At the minimum. Part of it goes all the way back to the Geneva Convention circa 1950.

Some are still "sneak across for work", but as we've discussed, the problem now is more asylum-seekers. Asylum-seekers don't hide from Border Patrol, they seek them out so they can request asylum. A large percentage never make it past the first interview, and are deported immediately. Of those who get a court date, 60% (per albaby) don't pass with the judge and are deported.
