Speaking only for myself- so much of sports, both on the professional and collegiate level, has been drowned by money and grift. Online gambling… scandal…. Obscene amounts of money. Pete Rose would be a choir boy in this environment….
So the bloom is off the rose for me, and has been for a few decades.
The last football game I watched was a high school game. And the last “baseball” game was the minor league Toledo Mud Hens. And truth be told- I enjoy women’s softball more than baseball these days.
It’s getting harder and harder to find sporting events that still exhibit and evoke the joy of fair competition.
More and more, it’s performative chest beating, gambling spreads, ball spiking and performance enhancing drugs.
Even the Olympics is not immune.
