You still have all those moderate republicans that voted for Johnson "for the good of the party". It is unlikely they will support extreme legislation if that is all he brings to the floor. McCarthy had shown you can not trust what he says, so perhaps it is good he is gone. Making deals and not following through is straight from the Trump playbook; hopefully Johnson doesn't fall into that trap.

They wouldn't have voted for him if they didn't think they could work with him. The GOP Rules Committee is one of the most respected functions there is inside the GOP caucus and Johnson used to chair it. That means he has street cred amongst most if not all of the factions in the GOP side of the House.

He's also not a member of the Freedom Caucus, so he doesn't have that getting in the way of working with the moderates.

My question is: Why didn't we hear about this guy before?
