Apparently, an American given asylum in Russia is active in trying to sabotage the election this year. One of the dangers of getting your news from Xhitter, FB, or any other non-mainstream outlet: no reporters, no accountability, no research/verification. Care also needs to be exercised as he tries to mimic legit news sites, and AI is helping him. He buries the BS amongst actual news, so it is harder to detect (in principle).

No, they don't. Not even close. It's these sketchy sources that try to reinforce that notion to further their own goals. The most you could accuse of MSM of is story selection (i.e. what they do and do not report).
Mainstream is accountable because of competition. The WashPo would love to be able to call out NYT for a false story, and vice versa. So they are incentivized to get it right, check sources, and beat others to the punch. Plus get Pulitzers.
