Then who will be left to run Trump’s government?

But on the positive side- Democrats will be left with huge majorities in the House and Senate.

Maybe. Don't be so sure. Remember, Trump's position on immigration and border control was popular. The GOP did what one needs to do to advance your agenda - actually change public opinion. In the four years since 2020, public opinion shifted sharply away from being concerned with the rights and treatment of people who are here illegally.

Plus, Democrats don't have a great Senate map in 2026. Maine is the only GOP Senate race that might possibly be competitive. The next most vulnerable would be....Lindsay Graham in South Carolina? Is he more vulnerable than John Ossoff in Georgia? Every other GOP incumbent up in 2026 is in a ruby red state. Which might present a few opportunities if there's an open seat, but I can't spot any incumbents on that map that would get thrown out based even in a thermostatic rejection of Trump's policies.

I hope Dems get majorities in at least one chamber - I was hoping for that regardless who won.

One party rule usually cooks that party.

"Then who will be left to run Trump’s government?"

Putin: Secretary of Defense?

Ivy League Presidents and the Liberal students can run the Commission on Anti Semitism.

Sheeple: Sec Agriculture.

You: You can be Trump's 3rd term re-eleciton chairman. You did a magnificent job twice so far.

I'm waiting to see if you will be supporting Republicans AGAIN in 2028. C'mon, surprise us. Go Democrat this time - change it up.

...what about the Russian mafia .... eastern euro gangs are major traffickers of drugs and sex slaves.

I suppose they get pass because they're white?

It's amusing that Elon Muskovich claims that reprotage of his visa violations are merely political. If you're poor and POC, it's a crime. If you're rich and white, it's political.

WOrks for me.

ALBABY, perhaps you missed the joke...at least I think it was sarcasm. If 'the bad hombres and crooks go', the right sides of the chambers will be decimated.

Oh, Albaby…. Your strength is your commitment to facts and a mature temperament. That’s what all of us love about you.

But those very qualities get in your way when leaps of logic and a gallows sense of humor are called for- like this current time when so many of us are grappling with the hard fact that a solid majority of Americans voted for the convicted criminal who brags about grabbing women by the hoohah, while promising to protect women even if they don’t like it, and who promises to seek retribution on his political enemies, round up millions of illegals in a bloody program, while using the historically resonant language of fascism to describe his enemies upon whom he promises to exact retribution.

To whit…..

Clearly, if we go after the bad hombres and crooks, and then “go from there” we’d see a procession of Congresscritters (mostly Republicans, but some Democrats as well) being frogmarched out of the Capitol in handcuffs, and what would be left would be clear Democratic majorities in both Houses.

Ridiculous? Of course.
Unworkable? Undoubtedly (though more folks are willing to entertain the notion than in years past)

But when someone muses aloud about taking out the bad hombres and crooks, “and then go from there”, it should come as no surprise that someone else might have a different opinion concerning what “going from there” might look like.

Yours is not a failure of logic, but rather, a failure of twisted imagination, which I possess in spades.

One party rule usually cooks that party.

Truer words……

The corollary: Two party rule usually saves each party from the excesses of itself.

However, in our current moment in history, control of a compliant Supreme Court may give enough cover for an authoritarian President and submissive Senate to overcome the opposition of a House held by the Democrats- assuming for the moment that Dems actually take the House.

I have little doubt that the originalists on the Court will come up with some truly original justification for completely sidelining the House if it is held by the opposition.

They might not even need to come up with snything new. Their previous opus of original and novel thought on the issue of presidential immunity may already provide the framework for neutering the House. If there’s a crack in the wall, trust the same lawyers who straight-faced agreed that the president can send Seal Team Six to assassinate a political opponent….to find and exploit it.

But rest assured- it will all be “legal” if they do it.

I appreciate the kind words...but I think maybe I misunderstood you? Because I was being more cynical, not less.

I think the electorate wants the "going from there" scenario to happen. They don't just want the bad hombres tossed out. They don't just want the criminals deported.

The GOP did an amazing job at turning public opinion on immigration away from where it was in 2020 - and not just on concerns about crime. This time, it wasn't just people upset that the folks coming in unlawfully might be bad people; you had a lot of folks in disadvantaged community that were very upset that these folks got to jump the line.

People who can barely afford to pay the rent or are on long waiting lists for public housing (with a residency requirement!) are upset that migrants are given free hotel rooms. People whose family members waited years to get work papers are upset that migrants are given them instantly. People who are struggling to make ends meet are upset that migrants are being given debit cards so they can buy food and other necessities. Etc.

I don't think you see as much outrage as you think would happen.

This plus the big question - why should only south/central Americans be able to jump the line while Asians and Europeans can't? Especially considering that Asians/Europeans tend to add value to the economy a lot quicker than South/Central Americans do. Can you imagine what would happen if an Asian guy who doesn't have a visa jumped through passport control at the airport border and tries to get into the country? They'd probably have officers chasing him down and perhaps even shooting him if necessary. Meanwhile at the southern border, the ones that lead to South/Central America, people regularly walk/swim across and sometimes even have nice folks on the US side handing out water bottles to assuage their thirst.
