My google-fu is broken today. I can't find much info on the source "Alliance GPW". And I can't find independent confirmation of this story. With those caveats in place, here it is:

I got my AZ license in my 20s, I think, and it expires when I'm 65. I always thought that was crazy. I hardly look like my DL photo anymore. I think if 1poormom had to renew her license every five years that she would probably have not been allowed to drive earlier than when we realized she had a cognition problem (around 2018 or so, age 85 for her). That, arguably, would have been a good thing.
This is current AZ law. Your state almost certainly has its own laws. If Alliance GPW is correct, it's going to be federalized.
